Yeah I use it now and then on iphone when out and about while I'm at work and can't get a 3G signal and an Openzone or Btfon point pops up.

Ive found that the standard fon app has worked better on android, and its logged me in automaticaly both in the Uk, and whilst abroad in Holland.

The Bt app appears to offer the same functions as the fon app, but i think that the BTfon app is just UK specific, where as the fon app should work world wide ( in theory ) wherever fon sell/supply thier routers/software.
As for access outside the UK ( ie holland ) fon is not as prolific as its more comonly supplied as a stand alone service ( ie you need to buy a fon router)
you can see all the fon spots worldwide at http://maps.fon.com/ although sometimes their location may be a little bit out
There is also a free 30 minutes of wifi at Schiphol airport, provided by KPN.

ive found that the official fon app, coupled with the easy wifi app will log you in seamlessly whenever theres a usable access point.

you shouold be able to log into your fon account at http://www.fon.com and theres another more detailed map that you can access from there, complete with a messaging function to get in touch with other foneros.

Thanks for the info. I have been to Amsterdam before a few years ago but this will be the first time I will have used a smartphone over there.
I opted in to BTFon via my BT Home Hub 3 a while ago.

one more thing that may be worth considering, is roaming charges, i swapped out my sim card, and replaced it with a pay as you go one form vodafone (UK) to avaoid excessive data roaming charges, vodafone UK charge £2.00 for upto 25mb of data per day on pay as you go in Holland.
( your phone will need to be unlocked)

sods law says that you will just be out of range of usable wifi.

Dont think I will go to the bother of getting my HTC phone unlocked. I will just turn my mobile data off over there and try and use wi-fi.
Thanks for all the info anyway.
