Questions about Everything Everywhere
CuBz90
28-11-2011
Will Orange and Tmobile eventually both be known as Everything Everywhere, abolishing "Orange" and "Tmobile". I know that everything everywhere has already started, with stores, etc, but I'm talking about them as the network names (eg, will "everything everywhere" be displayed at the top of phones where the network name is displayed?

If so, will benefits of one of the networks then be able to be used by both (eg, orange wednesdays)

Finally, if this is happening, when is it supposed to be happening?

Sorry if any of these are daft questions.

Thanks

Well, from what I've read in the press the merger has been a bit of a nightmare. They need to sort out senior management before deciding on a common brand for their two networks.

I think we are a way off T-mobile and Orange merging into one network. They are coming across contractual problems where it comes to sharing networks as it is. Currently 2G is shared, it's 3 G that's the problem I think.

I think it's to do with Who looks after the masts. If anyone can remember the article published a few months back, post a link.

3G is shared as well now

I think they should remain separate brands that the public people know and like. Everyone easily recognises Orange and T-Mobile, creating a whole new network with a different name seems like the wrong move to me, especially if they would call it 'Everything Everywhere' that would be an awful name for a network IMO lol.

Maybe if they merged the networks under one brand name, for example getting rid of T-Mobile and making one big Orange network, seems more likely to me.

Lummo makes a good point. Getting rid of both network names will be a bad idea, but using Orange or T-mobile all as one, wouldn't be ideal. T-Orange wouldn't be so bad either

I thought they might go with Orange first in the brand name

Perhaps Orabile - taking the start and end of the two brands Orange and T-Mobile

It's unlikely that they will get rid of either brand names because Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom are equal partners in the joint venture. Therefore, neither party is going to want to see their brand disappear.

Did Deutsche Telekom not leave T-Mobile in the Uk?

No. There are effectivley 2 shareholder in EE, 50% owned by France Telecom and 50% owned by Deutcshe Telekom.

As far as I know, the two brands will remain in the UK, although there are a new fleet of EE stores launching, showcasing both brands. One opened in White City just this weekend gone!

Business as usual - nothing is changing.

It would be very advantageous for them to stay separate companies/brands for now seeing the auction for the new mobile spectrum is coming up soon. Ofcom is dishing it out evenly between the networks which in theory will see TMOB/Orange get twice as much. Which is kind of good as Voda/O2 have currently an unfair share of 900 spectrum for 3G and EE have 1800 that they cannot really use for anything other than GPRS.

If I remember correctly OFCOM backed down and allowed all operators who owned the Legacy 2G spectrum to allocate usage for 3G this applied to both 900 and the 1800 spectrum. This is one of the reasons why Three was seeing their arse over it, as they paid through the nose as a new entrant to market only for the rules to change allowing existing licensed spectrum to be used for 3G.

I believe EE were trialling it somewhere, I could be wrong mind you.

The two brands are currently managed and run exactly the same way. Both companies retail business plans are exactly the same so in that aspect they are already 1 brand, the only real difference being the logo and the products.

However, orange are starting to incorporate T-Mobile products into their retail store... Whilst some managers might disagree it is a step forward in the companies both sharing there products and services! There are currently 2 products that are shares, thats the £7 SIMO deal on Orange that was originally launched on T-Mobile + also the T-Mobile PAYG mobile broadband dongle... Orange now have there own PAYM dongle and the T-Mobile PAYG dongle!

Not forgetting the signal share! I do think the networks at some point in the future will merge into a 'EE' but not anytime soon.

They probably will, but i hope they don't actually use Everything Everywhere as their high street name...

Welcome to the forum anyway! By your name i'm guessing maybe you work at Orange?
