The thing I don't like about him has nothing to do with him being nice or otherwise. I just don't like how he uses his status as a professional Ballroom/Latin dancer to shove incorrect technique down the unsuspecting public's throat, or pulls rank on the non-ballroom dancing judges just to prove his celebrity was right. Examples of this:
1. last year with Pamela's cha. Craig pointed out that she needs to straighten her legs more during new yorkers, and James' reply was that during those new yorkers the leg is supposed to be bent! Complete BS, and another professional (was it Karen?) on ITT confirmed that Pamela needed to have straightened her leg because the action comes from bending and straightening the knee.
2. This year with Alex's jive. Again Craig pointed out that Alex needed to have either pointed her toes or flexed her feet. James came on ITT and said Craig was wrong, in the kick section you never need to point your foot! Maybe he should tell that to his wife Ola, or other professional dancers who all either point their toes or flex their feet. Never in the history of dancing has it been ok to let any part of your body just fling about!
Anyway, I do think James is a good teacher (look at the improvement Alex has made) and I actually like Alex, and think she makes for good TV. She has a good relationship with James. But I want to see good dancing and despite her improvement, Alex doesn't have the physical strength to beat the top 4 (not even Holly). So I hope she doesn't make it to the final.
