* 4 people being voted off in week 1

Of course Janet should have realised that she'd be singing covers, but perhaps she thought she'd have more say in the decision making process.

I find it odd that contestants are criticised on here for being bland and singing covers, yet when any contestant shows a bit of spirit and a desire not to go down that route, they're also criticised for it! I guess they can't win!”

This! I liked Janet because her voice was so recognisable, but I knew she'd suffer from the Diana Vickers syndrome where people would start slagging her off for being one-dimensional. Like somebody commented in another thread, when was the last time Take That produced a rap album?

I love Take That (well, this time round anyway, I was far too cool to be a fan the first time) but it would jar the hell out of me if they started singing rock or rap songs.

The sad thing is, on two occasions she failed to remember the words to a song she'd been apparently rehearsing all week!”

Maybe she thought that "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was a Matt Cardle original song ?

She's being a sore loser and pulling an Amelia, Round 1.

Being an XF contestant is like having a child, folks who do that tend to say it's impossible to imagine how much it'll change your life until you've done it. Except anyone having a child would at least usually know they were quite likely to do so, whereas putting in an entry for XF only signifies a cat in h*ll's chance of a run on the lives... ”

Whatever their different tastes in music Janet and Misha fans can certainly agree on that.

These are only teenage girls pursuing a dream - and the X factor is one of the few routes they have.

Until you have been in the shoes of an X factor contestant you can have no idea how they feel”

I think its a mixture of all the above. At the end of the day the X factor has given Janet a platform to now do what she wants. She is contracted to the x factor tour (so will still have to sing covers) and after that if she gets a record contract she can have control over her songs etc.

I wish her all the luck. She has a great recording voice.

Their song from the X-Men movie is far more rock-oriented than their usual power ballads.
