Why do people keep saying Janet is an amazing, unique singer?

Let's clear this up. Janet's voice isn't unique. Just most singers don't sing(yodel) like her, as it's a very simple and cheap way of disguising a weak voice. It's a gimmick.
Diana Vickers tried it and only got away with it for so long.

Yes. Cheap vocal tricks for weak vocalists.
Kind of like how Frankie resorted to talk-singing. If he was a girl, he would have brought out the yodel. Guaranteed.

Also, praise for Janet has also swerved and tried to grasp onto her ability to play some musical instruments (a bit), which is irrelevant. X-Factor is a singing contest, it's about that raw talent.
With access to the privilege, within 6 months, any of the stronger vocalists could learn how to play an instrument as Janet can.
Janet couldn't sing as well as any of them with 6 years of coaching.
Christ, she can't learn the words to a shortened song within 6 days.

Live instruments are typically a clutch tool for weak vocalists.

Janet's voice is amazing and unique, that's my opinion, for me the others scream or shout out there songs to try out do each other for the big finish
i personally don't find that attractive in a singer, you might
i've always leaned more to the alterantive music than pop' hiphop and r&b and ive never like big voiced ballad singers
we never got a chance to hear her play her guitar,i think i would have liked that too but who knows
i loved Janet and looked forward to watching her each week, never knowing what would happen even her bad weeks i still loved her voice, she can be proud of herself, she left the show with her integrity intact, and her head held high
the 2 other girls left would have cried or stomped off
good luck Janet for the future i look forward to buying your music

Let's clear this up. What are we clearing up again?

Let's not compare Janet's voice to Frankie's here. Talk-singing is not a vocal trick that makes you sound good. It's a vocal trick that makes you sound baaaaad.

To be honest, Janet's ability to play instruments was completely irrelevant to my opinion of her throughout the series. I didn't see her use the guitar. For me, it was all about the voice, and what a voice. Her voice simply touched me. Diana Vickers comparisons are still wrong and missing the point. I much prefer Janet to Diana (though I liked Diana and her voice never got tiring for me)

I also ask where is the fairness in saying the same thing about Amelia but this is about Janet and I won't extrapolate.

Here is hoping that whatever Janet does in the future she becomes more open to expanding her range because album after album of the same thing can become tedious and seen as not moving with the times.

Yes. I've heard some say her voice is so unique because if they hear it on the radio they'll know it's her straightaway. Well, Kermit the frog also has a unique instantly recognisable voice...

Anyway, her voice is not to my taste. Its far from amazing IMO. Too weak and yodelling'ish for me. But hey, some love it and thats ok. Different strokes and all that...

I don't understand how she's unique either. All of her vocal quirks are the same as Diana Vickers or Dolores from The Cranberries. I'm actually surprised that she never sang a Cranberries record on the show.

She seems to be quite good at yelping... maybe that's what qualifies her as unique!!!

She sounds very Ellie Goulding-esque, and since she didn't exactly lighten up the charts I fail to see how Janet will.

I thing if Janet can be as memorable as Kermit and in her own field be as sucessful, Wow what a result! Kermit has been going since 1955, if Janet could do half that time she would still be singing at 54.

Guys she's gone now...

You can stop slagging her off.

She'll soon be making records and you will still be here making nasty comments about whatever makes you feel better about yourselves.
