Just listened to Amelia again...

I just listened to her version of 'China In Your Hand', and the original... and I am surprised to find that I actually prefer Amelia's version of it. I'm not sure whether it's tone of voice or whatever, but I find Amelia much more pleasant to listen to... I'm shocked... but there ya go!

I really don't get the whole shouting argument... it's utter bollocks!

China in your hand maybe not so much but "Since you been gone" was shouted to the rafters and cracked a few tiles but I see you conveniently ignored that.

Just listened again since I was distracted for that performance on Saturday, and sorry... I still don't get the argument... she seems to be belting more than shouting.

she may not be shouting per se (up for debate) but her voice while technically ok is extremely unmusical. The sound she creates is based on decibels rather than beauty. Hence the accusation of belting them out stridently. You'd think paint stripper over a good claret.

True.

China In Your Hand was definitely Amelia's best performance so far though, but it wasn't as good as the original.

Its the lack of tone.

belters get volume, but its in control, and they keep the tone in their voices, Sami was a good example of that, or Tesco Mary, Amelia doesnt.

There is no control at the top end, she loses the tone , and all there is is volume, thats whats referred to as 'shouty' , it doesnt help that she keeps trying songs that have high notes she simply cannot reach, so she reverts to volume, which she isnt good at either.

All wrong! When she was in Boot Camp she sang a song so soulfully I knew right then she was going to win it

That was not belting it seemed highly forced and as if she wanted to get more volume than musicality. I am afraid her voice almost broke at some of the high notes.

Yes. Keep telling us about her shouting. Every post of yours related to her is about that

.
I don't get this love for Amelia's voice, singers like her are two a penny, she is nothing special.

I don't like the way she bad mouthed the X Factor when she was sent packing, and now, upon return, she will do anything to win the show she and her family bad mouthed.

She will NOT be getting any votes from me.

Also, I thought that Sophie sang way better than Amelia on the charity single miming performance.

To be honest I am responding to the OP's concerns about the shouting argument mentioned in the first post, thus I am responding about what I deem to be her shouting and contributing to a discussion of the OP with regards to this.

Now I don't know who made you forum police but last time I looked I believe it is customary for one have their opinion and post it whether that agrees with others or not.

For me this comment nails it. There is no control and Gary was right the songs she has been given lead to higher notes than her voice can handle atm, if Amelia had had vocal training and coaching a few more weeks she would have sounded a little different, or had confidence to say what is better for her vocal range. I get the feeling shes trying to make too many people happy and forgetting her abilitys.

The shouting comment was just another dodgy tactical comment fromTulisa.

I liked the song, but Amelia still needs to inject some more emotion into her voice [China In Your Hand was a good start though].

Sure, she's been doing gigs while off the show, but I doubt she's been rounding off her vocals half as much as the others have been doing.

I feel all that lost time may have cost her the winning spot already [unless she completely owns a popular ballad - she needs to show some versatility than big belting numbers - this week and gets into the final 3].

My opinion on the 'shouting thing' fwiw.

Many singers have powerful voices - Leona, Alexandra etc, but what they have is a more mellow tone to their voice when they're singing at their most powerful. Amelia has a nasty, sharp 'edge' to her voice when she sings loudly which makes me wince.

I do also agree with Gary when he said some songs she picks are a bit too high, she's even more screechy when she is straining to hit a note that's slightly out of her range.

That may be what some people refer to when they say she shouts.

Its because Carol Decker is about a quarter tone flat on the crescendos.
