I was connecting up my Dreamcast to my TV and had a look through the vents. I saw a Philips sticker on what looked like to be the actual screen. We have a Hitatchi TV and was wondering if we have been given a nock-off TV.

The T.V is been rented from Granada

It is possibe as different manufactures make tubes and other components for other manufactures.

So I wouldn't worry about it being knocked off.

Philips make screens for lots of folks, including posh brands like Loewe

The manufacturers build up the rest of the kit

Cathode ray tubes are quite a speciallised component to manufacture, so companies will buy them off someone else.
The smaller 'cheaper' brands do tend to make less themselves and just assemble PCBs.

For many years Philips tubes were used in nearly all Panasonic branded european TV's.... eventually Panasonic brought the tube factory from Philips for themselves.

Philips are one of the largest tube makers and many other companies buy from them, the tubes would be made to their specification.

I know one customer who waw very upset when their lovely top of the range Finlux TV had a Philips tube inside it...

Oh and as for Loewe, they're a top brand TV a bit like Bang & Olufsen, very expensive and flash lookining.

Oh right, like a "Toff Tele?" LOL

In Fenwicks in Newcastle they have a massive flat screen tv which looks extremelly flash and it costs about £8000!!!!!!

OK, who makes the Proline CD Radio cassettes @£29.99?? They're surprisingly OK

Often the overseas-sounding brands such as Matsui are actually designed and assembled in the UK, while some of the traditional British brands (Bush, Wharfedale, Roberts etc) are badge-engineered Far Eastern products. I don't actually mind where the products are built, but I do resent the whole branding phenomenon, as in a way it's designed to deceive the customer.
