This looks great! You can understand why they don't want to stray from the Street's 'iconic' look, so not much is going to change...but it's still worth getting excited about, methinks!

it looks like they're planning to build a street behind Victoria Street

I'm kind of hoping that they'll bring Frescos back into the storylines. Or at least something other than Dev's Corner Shop. Frescos gave us the likes of Hayley and Curly & Reg were comedic geniuses!

The set looks like it's coming along very nicely. I'm excited to see it when it's finished and actually being filmed on!

A Cumbrian firm is doing the slate for the Kabin, The Salon, Underworld, Street Cars, Victoria Terrace, Gails as well as the Websters and The Medical Centre.

Very interesting and loving the new images as it gets built. It does look like they have decided to go with a full size factory set which makes me wonder if they will build a practical interior therefore saving space in the main studio. We also appear to have the proper street through the arch rather than just the backdrop they now use which so we could have practical yards for more interaction round t'back

It's all looking good, I wish it was done to a bigger more realistic scale though.

It's going to be a third larger than it currently is.

Hopefully that will give the set a bigger sense of realism then. If only they could clear up the maze that is the rovers return.

Slightly off topic, but Welsh soap Pobol y Cwm moved to a new set earlier this year too - again built fully to scale as opposed to the 75% size they had previously been using. The difference on screen is huge, and really noticeable when you watch back old episodes on youtube.

Something Pobol y Cwm now does is use the actual set buildings for interior filming - so the shop, the salon and the cafe interiors are actually shot on the external set which really adds to the realism. Anyone know if this is something planned by Corrie?

I've no idea, but it was something rumoured a long while ago. I think some of the sets would benefit from being built within the exterior buildings. Audrey's salon perhaps, along with the bookies (as now) and maybe Roy's Rolls?

The only set I really wouldn't like to see in the exterior set is The Kabin, which has always had that false orange studio lighting for as long as I can remember.

Some of the locations on the current set are 'real' - the medical centre, kebab shop, butchers' and the bookies.

I'd definitely like to see more sets on the 'real' backlot though.

Great suggestions - I think that the salon would really benefit from being on the backlot, ditto to the cafe.

As for the Kabin, I share the same opinion as you! It's always looked like a fake set since it was redesigned around 2000. Up until then the Kabin had always been one of the most realistic sets in the show, now it's appalling.

I agree I think several of the sets on the new street should be real sets, underworld would be excellent it would add a real sense of realism to the factory scenes and also save a lot of room on the set, Audrey's, street cars, devs and Possibly Roy's would be quite easy to erect on site defiantly Audrey's street cars and devs.

About the Kabin, is it still supposed to be a Post Office? It doesn't look like it could be on the set, there are no glass panels or scales or anything.. No PO I've been in bears any resemblance to the Kabin.
I also hope this new set brings proper changes on interiors as well, revamps of the Kabin, and the Rovers especially! And what about obvious decay and dirt you see at the moment? Surely it will look clean and new once it's built

I think that they quietly got rid of the post office after the tram crash. The Post Office branding definitely disappeared after its revamp, even though the shop itself - both inside and out - barely changed one bit.

The tram crash really was a wasted opportunity for both the corner shop and the Kabin. Both locations were completely destroyed, which should've been a perfect opportunity to redesign both sets, but instead we just got new sets that were more or less carbon copies of what had been there previously!

You imagine it would but when Emmerdale made the move from elshot to harewood all sorts was done such as bricks been worn with tea bags etc to Age the village, I'm sure we won't notice too much of a difference, when is the change due to appear on screen ?

Looking at the image of the factory set remember that frame includes the Kabin and the Mechanics sets as well and when I'm looking the current set I'm not convinced there's going to be any major difference. Also under the archway again they are using the false looking backdrop. The frame you see on the other side of the arch is what the backdrop will be mounted on. There was a lot of opportunity here to improve what has always been a poor set but it looks to me like they've let it go and pretty much recreated the same inferior set, with all it's inconsistencies, but allegedly on a larger scale.

The thing with this is Emmerdale are good when it comes to their set's. Coronation Street must be the worst of any of the soaps when it comes to their set. I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if they were to rebuild the set without the necessary grime, cracked pavements, weeds and aged brickwork etc. They certainly didn't pay attention to these things when they built the current set whereas when EastEnders built Albert Square they spent a lot of time on these things.

I wonder if the tree outside the salon is to play a part in the move, as they can hardly transplant a 20 year old tree onto the new set, they may have a story where it blows down, damages the rovers, hence the extra window on the new set

all quite exciting, we didnt have all this 30 years back when they transfered to the current set, we just saw it on screen
