all quite exciting, we didnt have all this 30 years back when they transfered to the current set, we just saw it on screen”

Yeah, stuff like the tree and the natural growth on the set will be hard to replicate

Here's my other thread

There was a lot of opportunity here to improve what has always been a poor set but it looks to me like they've let it go and pretty much recreated the same inferior set, with all it's inconsistencies, but allegedly on a larger scale.”

Frustratingly, that's all that they've done.

This move could've been phenomenal, a real moment to bring the Corrie set up to date and get rid of the annoying anomalies that have plagued it for years. The Victoria Street area and the Rosamund Street viaduct are my biggest disappointments from what I've seen so far.

Rosamund Street should've been extended just beyond Coronation Street, getting rid of the ridiculous 'viaduct to nowhere' and including some new, larger Victorian houses. They could've included the corner of Crimea Street and Mawdsley Street and then put in a more believable 'break' in the set (either through another viaduct, road bridge or just a bend in the road). This would've provided continuous shots up Rosamund Street, provided more space for cars, buses and vans to drive along and generally made things feel bigger.

Sadly they've stuck with the status quo.

Then again, it wouldn't be the Corrie set if we had nothing to moan about!

still looking good but I now fear the ideas that were pushed around when they started talking about the move some years ago will now never happen, that being the inclusion of Bessie Street school and a proper town centre wtih Frescos, police station, church and court building

A lot of those extensions you mention cant really be done, its not in the planning permission, they will have some space that they can extend into, but I dont think that includes Mawdsley Street

I'm speaking as if I were in a dream world - all of this stuff clearly isn't going to happen.

It was conceived in 1999/2000 to allow shots to be filmed looking down Rosamund Street, though it was never, ever used to its full potential.

It might do in 10 years, they have planned for further extensions, I'm sure if they want to expand before then, they can always apply for permission.

I bet one of the hardest things to get right will be the famous cobbles. I wonder when was the last time any of these firms laid a cobbled street? :P

If Stuart Blackburn's comments are anything to go by, they might not have to relay the cobbles ...

Of course the other posters suggestions could have been achieved. The reason there isn't planning permission is because no application to build what has been suggested above was submitted. If the designers had decided to address the poor design of the set and, in the new design, amend the inconsistencies of the current set, then an application with an improved and enhanced design could have been submitted.

thanks for that

the tree outside the salon is quite big, got a pic from the studio tour in 1991 when it's a skinny sappling

the fact the new set is visibly longer and wider is going to be quite obvious from the start, like when we compair the current set to the first outdoor set which was on the other side of the bonded warehouse, where the US set was on the studio tours, it's now used as a 'town centre' set for when Izzy was mugged as an example

One thing that makes me laugh about that awfully situated bridge besides the Rovers - the painting/photo behind it is a daytime image - not very good for nightshoots - also, those cars never move! And it has barriers across it !

They should have ditched this when re-building, or created a bend in the road to make it look like it really leads somewhere.

Thanks for new pic. Can't wait to see finished product, do we know when the move there is?

Cheers Pyramid, appreciate that. Hoping to see some real detail start to form in next couple of weeks, and will finally be able to see if true 'amendments' have been made to the set.

The candid shots that were posted on that internet forum a while back (the thread has since been deleted) showed just how great a job they were doing with the brickwork on the new set. It's an extremely close match with the bricks on the current set... so I'm hopeful the new cobbles will look as familiar as ever.

The BIG question for the new set surely has to be... will they remember to carve "Dennis Tanner 1951" in the No.11 window ledge?

They cant do a worse job than whoever laid the cobbles on the first exterior set

Yikes, I'd forgotten about that - bloody awful!

I never liked that set. It looked too tatty and ratty. The 1982 set looked positively beautiful compared to the last one, especially when you trawl through YouTube and compare the clips! A shame it looks like a Monopoly game board these days...
