It's still there, and still looking good. Saw it a few weeks ago. Mostly surrounded by cars as it's the crew car park.

Isn't the area where the original outdoor Corrie set was when it was a wooden facade and really draughty? Ended up the New York street on the Studio tours?

Yes the first outdoor street was located just inside the gates where the tours would eventually come in from.

I have always though the original plans for the new backlot included a town centre of sorts and would feature Frescos, police station, hospital, shops parade and also Bessie Street school.

Looking at the latest video of the new set the one thing that jumps out is just how big the factory is and I am still sticking to my thought that they will use a practical interior as doing this would free up space on the soundstages giving the opportunity for new sets

Awesome I love the smaller less used sets, it beats using on location exterior shots for the police/hospital. I hope they do something similar at the new set.

New video clip. Not sure if this has been shown on here yet.”

what was all that 'last cobble being laid' on the news, there's no cobbles down at all, apart from the bit they laid the last cobble in

I prefer on location and am sick of Corrie existing in this silly little bubble. It never used to be as bad as this.

Now the houses are larger I'm hoping some of the less used sets such as Emily's property are featured on the backlot rather than put up on the soundstage as and when required for filming purposes.

It's looking great!

I would have had them build the Corner Shop into the building on the oudoor lot (bit like EastEnders Minute Mart) so you could have natural light & see out of the windows - anything is better than that awful set they currently use (Alf must be spinning in his grave!) The wall between No13 & the shop could be fake to allow camera access (like the Laundrette/M-Mart in EE)

Yes, that would've been good.... and the same for The Kabin too.

I'd actually love to see Audrey's salon on the exterior set. I think it would really benefit from natural daylight.

How about the cafe?

The Kabin would be an interesting one - but I'm personally so used to the orangey studio lights that set has almost always had...

God that set is AWFUL. It has to be the most unrealistic of the lot.

You are SOOOO right. It used to look just like a proper corner shop. Nowadays it just screams "dressed set".

That's how they shoot the factory already and has been for quite a while now. The Bistro is also in the actual location, right? The shop would be a good choice to change to be on location, the set is crap, as has already been pointed out. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Roy's Rolls will change too. Just look at how much bigger the Roy's exterior is!

I don't believe that the factory and bistro are housed in the exterior sets. The factory was indeed filmed in the exterior set during the Baldwin years, but I believe they stopped doing that around the time the Connors took over, and the set was expanded a hell of a lot.

the factory set was originally filmed in but apparently was a bugger to heat so the moved to an interior set

sets used on the current outdoor lot are the garage butchers as was, kerbab shop, chip shop, health centre, bookies, police station when used and if you want to be very pedantic the smoking shelter (which really is a smoking shelter for cast and crew during breaks)

over on eastenders the public toilets are real to save cast and crew having to go off into the main buildings during outdoor filming

The door onto the viaduct will never be seen,I bet it is there for cameras to get access so a shot can look down on the cobbles or a high shot.
Yeah the viaduct does not work logically but it hides all the stuff in the background so it does have a job.

Wonder what they'll use that big building at the end of the street for, behind the medical centre - semi-regular guest sets (hospitals/police stations etc) maybe?
