I'm getting more and more convinced they're gonna start shooting Roy's in the actual outside set. The building is massive compared with before. What would be the point in them making it so big if they weren't gonna do something like this?

Coronation Street site in Manchester sold for £26m
ITV's Coronation Street site in Manchester is to be turned into a residential and commercial quarter after it was sold for £26m.
The soap is due to move next year to a new set that is still under construction at MediaCityUK in Salford. The channel's former offices in Quay Street have been bought by developers Allied London and Manchester City Council. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-24305446 |

I remember when David went through his original "demon" years and they had him stood on top of a roof, and you could clearly see the arches ending suddenly.

So they're going to knock it down and build shops there?
You'd think they'd keep The Street there as a tourist attraction and build around it.

I think the street set is a separate issue, they don't know what to do with it as oddly nobody wants to buy it, they could hire the upstairs out as office space and have the rest as a tourist attraction

A map of Weatherfield from 1975, nice to see how various Producers over the years have altered continuity for their own ends. (Move your mouse cursor out of the picture frame for the full view) |

sorry to gatecrash - I keep reading bits about the new set & that it is bigger and more complete but at the same time the viewer wont notice the difference...Um...
I'm guessing the viewer is simply expected to suspend their disbelief and go with the flow...or is it CS bingo where you play spot the difference when it finally swaps over...? |

I dont think casual viewers will notice, I've seen a few of them think that they're already filming on the new set set lol.

that is funny you say that people think they are filming on the new set already, as when Granada studio tours was open and you could go on the current corry set, some people just would not believe it was the actual place they filmed it and thought it was a mock up
some people even think it's a real street (that was brookside, although some refuse to believe that brookside was / is real houses) usually the people who 'know' are the one who do no research what so ever and just assume anyway set is coming on a treat, will put eastenders to shame with their tiny set |

Construction of the new set wont be complete until the end of the year and itv are still to agree on a moving date from the Quay street set to Mediacity. We will easily know when the move is on screen as certain buildings like the Rovers, Dev's shop and Roy's Rolls have extra bits added on. Also when they are filming on the new set the opening titles will be getting revamped. Not long to go now guys, the wait will be worth it

Just found this video, it was filmed a while back but it does show the enormity of the new set.

I think it's safe to say they will film a set of new titles or at least re-film elements. I don't think there is a source/confirmation. But ITV won't spend £Ms on a new set and then we still see the old one on every single episode.
Plus the old street will look small, so they will want to erase any sign of it once we see the new one. I know some, I'm not saying any of you, love their opening titles dipped in cast iron, but they should change more often. Especially the Corrie one as it's so easy to edit in comparison to others. I hate seeing the old boarded up Bistro on the current version! No amount of blur can hide it. |
