They want it to be seamless - but the first time we see the new set it'll be quite weird. I take it the windows on the side of the Rovers will be there on the new set - and I hope Victoria Street doesn't resemble a large alley

I think there will be a few noticeable changes, I'm hoping to do a Q&A with Corrie later this year about the new set for the Coronation Street Blog, so I'll make sure to ask them about noticeable changes and new additions

Looking at the recent pictures I'd say Coronation Street looks wider now than on the current set.

The distance between Nos. 11 and 13 and The Kabin/Webster's Garage/Underworld looks more 'real world' than the 1982 set on screen now.

Or is it just me?

Yes. Phil has confirmed this

MANCHESTER EVE NEWS

The new exterior set will be an exact replica on the
existing one, while increasing the scale of the buildings
so they match the size of those in the real world.

It's interesting how they're building Underworld and the garage seperate from The Kabin lol

The street is definately looking longer

Sorry just looked at this!

So they've started on Victoria Street - is that Victoria Court do you think?

I'm guessing it'll be Prima Doner, Roy's Rolls and Elliott's The Butchers, plus the flats that Julie and Brian live in.

All I can see is scaffolding. I must have a bad visual mind because frankly I can't make any judgments about the new set based on that picture, whatsoever.

Just so confusing. They aren't building wider Weatherfield? And HOW much larger will the set seem onscreen?

Granted it's perhaps hard to visual now, but in time it'll be the Street you know and love!

The set will definitely be a lot larger than it is now. As Pyramidbread and others have kindly contributed in various threads part of the land at Salford Quays will allow for extensions to Weatherfield in time.

You're just too quick Pyramidbread - thanks as always!

Just because I'm thinking about it, do we know when the move dates will be? I know it's sometime in 2013.

When's this due to be finished?

Report this morning in the Mirror (via DS, of course, I don't read that rubbish! ) saying that 'construction delays' might hold up the move to the new set.

DS article here.

... and seriously, whichever member of the PR team at Mace wrote their statement needs to be strung up. A complete load of gobbledygook!

"Mace confirm that work is in progress to identify the most appropriate strategy to remediate the steel frames of the partially built stage areas of the Coronation Street production facility"

All that is seemingly fixed now, since the area in question is now looking closer to completion (http://i47.tinypic.com/4jnchs.jpg)

Also - what's this little bit on Victoria Street? http://i48.tinypic.com/33m7792.jpg

How did you manage that?

Thanks for the new pics Pyramidbread - great work as always.

I still can't decide if it is or isn't bigger than the current set.

Looking at the aerial photo, the width of the street seems to be about the same as the 'real' road that's at the top of the page. Once they've allowed for the pavements, I reckon the street will be wider than it currently is.

I agree, I think the buildings will be bigger too, but it's hard to judge from a top down perspective, they'll definately be taller though

The size of the buildings is hard to gauge from the top down perspective as it only shows the foundations for the buildings and not show the pavements.

Interesting that they've not done much work on the medical centre and betting shop area yet.

I wonder what they'll do about the tree outside the salon - it's pretty big now!
