Since the tram crash, that Corner Shop has been a complete mess - awful lay out & style....Alf, Reene, Florrie Lyndley, Maud Grimes, Brendon Scott & Fred Elliott would all be spinning in their graves if they could see it now.

For me, the best layout/era was the late 80's when it was Alf's Mini Mart - bright, clear & stylish for it's time.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Corrie should have taken the move opportunity to re-style the Corner Shop by actually building it into the outdoor set (like EE's Minute Mart) using a fake wall between that & No13 & a fake wall in the flat entrance for camera access angles. I'd have put the shop door back on the corner, had see through windows & just cleaned it up a bit.

Victoria Court Area?

Pity Steve isn't setting this up, they could have called it Gym Mcdonald

I second your comments here. Ever since the Mad Maya storyline (and Tram crash) the Corner Shop seems far too cramped compared to Alf Robert's days.

And I fully agree that Coronation Street dropped a clanger by not including fake walls to allow for the interior set to be included on the backlot.

In fact sets such as Emily Bishop's and No. 13 should be on the backlot seeing as they rarely frequent our screens!

Haha ! Yes, it appears the gym set is going to down from the Victoria Court flats where the wooden facade on the backlot is (rather than a road down to the tram stop and strip club/casino is now.)

Chesneys house is a new set.

I'm sure we've just seen the new street, with the Todd, Eilean, and Maria scene...I seen two cars pass?

The jumbo-sized Bistro in the background gave it away to me.

Pretty sure some of the scenes in Chesney's house were single camera too- I'm sure they wouldn't have been able to shoot from so many angles on multi-cam without getting other cameras in shot.

Sadly the camera never showed the Rovers, which would have given things away with its extra upstairs window.

I dont think that was the new set tonight, the lamposts were on the kerb, whereas on the new set they're next to the garden walls. Plus the street is wider still than what was seen tonight

New angles in Chesneys tonight. Weird actually.

Plus so much more room in Eileen's front porch by the stairs.

New wallpaper in Eileen's hall way too? Definitely the old Quay Street set; the biggest give away was the old Victoria Courts behind Owen's yard.

No5 seemed bigger; the last time I remember really seeing the wall where the fireplace is was when Don and Ivy Brennan lived there!

IF they aren't filming on the new set from the episodes we are currently seeing I wonder if a lot of sets were dismantled in the run up to Christmas leaving a lot of room for the ones required for filming before the Festive break?

Agreed - the other giveaway is the bay windows which have been slightly extended on the new set but were the usual small size tonight. Outdoor scenes definitely still from Quay Street this week!

Nothing that we haven't already seen... but doesn't the new exterior Rovers look gorgeous in these couple of pics?! The construction workers/designers all did a fantastic job.

It does indeed. The attention to detail is second to none. I know there are a few quirks they haven't ironed out but it looks amazing.

The photo spoilers for next week suggest some of the scenes are still on the old Quay Street set...

some interesting photos in that link and some very reflective windows, especially the café, which could be tricky for filming

looking forward to seeing super sized corry

That first photo of whoever he is, pulling the pint - whoever the photographer was needs sacking - it's supposed to be showing that he's in the Rovers Return - the pic is as close up as you can get showing hardly any of the pub around him!

I thought that they were already using the new set now as one of the cast was talking about it in a soap mag saying how spacious it is now.

It's so much bigger isn't it?

Argh, this documentary can't come quick enough. I am so excited for it. I wish it was 2 episodes considering it was filmed over 2 years. They could have done episode 1 with the planning, start of construction, interviews, then episode 2 with the finishing of construction, and move to the new set.

But hey ho, best just be happy they did a documentary at all. I just wish it was longer than 42 minutes.

they are but obviously they film in advance of transmission by a few weeks so we see it on screen later than when they film it

Will it be officially opened?
Back in 1983, HM The Queen & Prince Philpot visited & opened the then new set - the cast stood outside their houses & HMQ walked down & met each of them. Julie Goodyear famously wore Charles & Di earrings

If she couldn't do it this time around, who could?
My choice would either be Bill Roache, or even better, Jean Alexander or Julie Goodyear.
Bryan Mosely (Alf) opened the main permanent studio block in the late 80's when that was built behind the viaduct I believe.

Also, does anyone know what happened to the 4 plaques that were hung outside the Granada Studios dedicated to Pat Pheonix, Doris Speed, Vilot Carson & Bryan Mosely?
