The recently reported fire takes place on a part of the set which is mostly a facade - certainly not a real building. It'll be interesting to see how this is disguised when the fire scenes are broadcast. Spoiler pics of the burnt set reveal the fakeness of the facade.

Eastenders has the perfect set - I was hoping for something similar with the new set but sadly not - maybe they're trying to improve it
The perfect set? I don't watch it, but from what I've seen, each area of it looks like a set. The Queen Vic is on a corner, it looks really isolated without any adjoining buildings. And then you have all the businesses, which look much too shiny and new.

Agree I also can't fathom were the streets go that lead off Albert Square, when you look at the street view of Fassett Square on which it's based its laid out in a much more conventional manner to what the BBC then came up with. That weird pedestrian area near Phil's house seems so irrelevant why not have the square be fully enclosed? And yes the Vic literally sits on its own with none of the neighbouring buildings even matching its height.

The odd 60's flats look out of place next to the Queen Vic http://www.tvthrong.co.uk/files/u146...on%20set_0.jpg lol

Tonight's second episode showed us the Rovers' back door - which leads to the smoking shelter - on screen for the first time. Until now it has always been hidden around the corner. It wasn't very glamorous, sadly.

It did. It also showed us that it's in the wrong place. It should be opening side on into the yard, rather than straight on. Also it apparently comes out of the toilets (gap between the Rovers and the Barlows) rather than where it should be.

Wasn't the area meant to have been heavily damaged by the blitz as in real life, which is why Bridge Street and the 60s flats are so different. I'd imagine the space between Phil's and Carol's was originally 33 (and 35?) Albert Square.

I've seen it many times when on the set - but always hoped that when finally shown on screen it would be a bit smarter eg with a stained glass window to match those in the bar.

Yes, the fireplace wall in Chesney's house, which always tended to be the default view in the days when Ivy Tilsley lived there.

I don't get the numbering in Albert square, one block is 1/3/5, then 23/25/27/29/31, then 18/20, then 41/43/45, bridge street, pub, 47. Makes no sense at all, especially the b&b being even numbers

Is this really going to become a discussion of the plaster set of EastEnders?

The new set is fantastic in how it's been created and upscaled. Sadly it is far too new looking and they clearly know that and are still shooting very tightly on the outside lot.

How long before it looks aged enough? 5 years... more?

Okeydokey. EastEnders set is really poor - it's moulded facades look like the plaster they are, it's pokey and contrived... streets that lead off the square lead to deadends and crazy corners... it's literally like a self-contained tardis

Or we could take a detour to Elstree.

Only joking. The Corrie set is great, I believe work starts on the set at Estree this year.

Its quite amusing Corrie have this wonderful set and since moving to Media City it has gone a little tits up. Perhaps It is a Quay Street Curse?

Perhaps not the best word to use Tardis. Speaking of the Tardis (otherwise known as the rovers return), do the regulars in the pub still have to pee in Kens parlour? or are they relieving themselves in the rovers lav now???

Yes I've never got the number system either it doesn't seem at all straight forward.

All part of the charm of Coronation Street. And it went tits up before the move but being a commercial juggxrnaught it will be fixed at some point. Hopefully sooner, but ITV are so slow to take action. But the ingredients are all still there.

I agree and there are signs of a big improvement. Corrie is an enjoyable watch, mainly down to the likes of Jack P Shepherd, Alsion king and Sally Dynevor. Corrie is at its best when it is being itself, not Emmerdale or a wannabe EastEnders. Corrie's strength is the mundane. I do miss Anne Kirkbride for this. She was brilliant at a scene which had nothing in it, for example coming back from Frescho's moaning about the women at the kiosk giving her the wrong fags. I do miss Deirdre.
