Interesting! Definitely echo the thoughts here, a return of Freshcos would be a smart move. It gives another major workplace to the street instead of just the factory. Would they build any new homes ever I wonder? A few additional homes would help, a new family or two would help round out the cast and give a bit more scope I think. As it is the only place for new people to go is to have a flat in Victoria Court or to bunk in with an existing resident unless there are any vacant homes Im not remembering?
I feel like I repeat my ideas all the time, so sorry to everyone for saying the same thing over and over and over again!

I would really like to see some larger Victorian/Edwardian town houses introduced through the Rosamund Street viaduct at the corner of Rosamund Street. We used to see some larger terraced houses in the first CGI opening credits when they were introduced in the early 2000s. Something like this perhaps?

Unfortunately ITV have opted to introduce a very pointless hardware store through the viaduct, but they really could have used the opportunity to have some more homes on the backlot. That's exactly what Corrie needs - more proper houses not businesses or flats.

If they had another row of ten odd houses they wouldn't need to fill them all up straight away but they could come in handy in the future. With EastEnders there are a few properties on the square where none of the "regulars" live, you're just left to presume that some characters do. With Corrie there are very few empty properties and everyone seems to be squashed into a small space. Extending the set is not a bad thing.

Here are some other ideas I've had for the precinct set.

This is my plan, based around an open square with trees and seating bound by Freshco, the bistro, library and some smaller shop units (in blue on this plan).

This idea is loosely based on the town centre Swinton, Greater Manchester.

Swinton town centre has a medium-sized ASDA store as its focal point.

There are smaller retail units around the central square (this picture isn't of Swinton but it's a more modern vibe)

Absolutely Scrabbler. Corrie has so many characters crammed into such a tiny area it's quite ridiculous.

I feel really strongly that any new houses that are introduced must be different from the houses already on Coronation Street - that's both the terraced houses and the modern houses on the other side of the street. Different houses mean different characters.

Thanks Scrabbs!

This is a tiny plan of Swinton Town Centre so you'll see how much I've shamelessly copied

I actually want them to do the same with EastEnders. It's ludicrous that some of the families live in the square, they would never be able to afford those sort of houses in reality. I'd quite like them to build an estate like the one in Shameless

I feel something similar to this would work in EastEnders. The poorer families such as Billy and Honey could live here. Rather than the shops though they could add a factory.

Is that the Shameless set, Scrabbler? I wonder what it's being used for these days? Was it based in Manchester or somewhere else? If it's down in London EastEnders could introduce it. The old Family Affairs set gets used for all sorts these days from music videos to adverts.

They need to refurbish and modernize the set. The perfect reconstruction of all the sets to their previous state after countless fires, explosion and crashes is grating. My frustration with this is magnified by, as others have pointed out on here, Corrie never used to be afraid of change and adapting. The Tram Crash, The Rovers Fire 2013 to name just two.

Many of the sets should be refurbished, rebranded, reoccupied and altered. Top of the list are The Factory, The Kabin & The Duckworth Museum.

Yeah it is the Shameless set KK, I think it was in Manchester. No idea if it's still there.

I've had a look on Google Maps and while the set is still visible on satellite view, when you go to StreetView it looks as though it has been demolished. StreetView images are from April 2015 and shows a TO LET sign on the plot.

Shame because it could have been used by Coronation Street had it still been there.

This would be awesome to see in the show, finally we'd stop getting Kabin fever from the show never leaving Coronation/Victora Street lol

If anything even close to this ever appears on screen I am taking full credit and expect ITV to compensate me accordingly!

Seriously though, this plan would take the pressure off the main Coronation Street set and allow it to focus more on domestic/residential aspects of the programme, with the commercial/business focus shifting to the precinct. I'd pare down the number of businesses on Coronation Street, relocating some of them to the precinct (bistro, salon, kebab shop)

I would also like to see one or two regular 'real' locations introduced to give a sense of a wider Weatherfield. Now that Coronation Street is actually film at Salford Quays, why not reintroduce Weatherfield Quays? They don't necessarily have to reintroduce the apartments, but they could find a reason to film there more regularly.

Aren't the houses on the Mawdesley Street terrace meant to light up at night giving the appearance of people living there?

Can't ever recall seeing them lit up during night scenes.

And what's with the tarpaulin just after the gym/Victoria Court flats? Been like it for months.

Heck they could even use the area behind the Roy's Rolls to give it the impression there's a couple of characters living away from the Street:

Ironically, I wished they had recreated this to be honest - they could have built exactly this in brick but in optical illusion form so it looks longer

Something they should've done when the backlot moved to MediaCity UK.

Was somewhat daft when they put up that backdrop on the Granada Studios wall and even on a sunny day (I believe it's the Newport Street area of Salford) it was always dull and overcast, haha.

So they've now added an Orangery to the Nazir household.

Looks out of place compared to Sally's conservatory but at least the new set has a partial interior of the kitchen now the interior set has been refurbished at long last.

The whole Nazir house is totally different! I was shocked. Looks nice though, suits the family's character more. I'd like that hardware shop and adjacent buildings beyond the viaduct to be turned into a second terrace of homes. I agree with all those saying we need more residences.

I loved Sally sending people out to search for Barry the dog, naming all the streets round the area!

Definitely been seeing some much nicer views of the set recently. Yasmeen in the ginnel from above, the wide shot of Leanne outside the Rovers, David behind the garage(?), the back-yard chase scene.

Really hope we see a lot more of the set and is used more creatively and in more variety. Re: this stunt later in year, as it's Platt related do we envisage Platt house could burn? If not that, Nick will open a new business and it will explode, I imagine, offing Michael and perhaps one other minor character.

I can never understand why they haven't utilised the two houses (far right in picture) that are already on the set

Obvious to put the Connors living in one of them...

Didn't Brian and Julie live in one of those houses at one time? Before they moved into the flat above The Kabin next to Rita?

At least we finally saw an extra hanging out the washing on Mawdseley Street too!
