Foods you have grown to love
What foods have you come to like, love or just not detest.
Here are a few of mine. Fresh coriander. I used to hate it. Even a couple of years back I refused a curry because it had it in. I then started cooking more indian and thai food for myself and nearly all the recipies had it in so I started to add it gradually. I now love it and put handfuls into my curries and stirfries. Olives and sundried tomatoes. When I first tried these several years ago, mainly on holiday I did not like them at all. They tasted rancid and bitter. I then started to eat deli meat more and combined the stuffed olives, sundired tomatoes with them and it's a great combo. I'm not at the point of eating them on their own though. |

A wide variety of mushrooms. I can't believe that when I was younger I would only buy button mushrooms!

Liver...fried up with bacon and onions. I would never eat it as a child and the kidney part of steak and kidney I used to leave kidney on the side of the plate, now I add extra to the casserole!

Green veg. Since I was a kid I've never liked green veg (except for peas and lettuce). I've since discovered I'd never had it cooked properly! I now love green beans, cabbage, broccoli etc. as long as they're not overcooked. Still can't stomach sprouts, but one of these days I'll try them again.

I never used to eat Omelette [or scrambled eggs] now I am a massive omelette fan and make a wonderful omelette !! It is so simple, yet so tasty - how did I ever not like them! I am also the same with scrambled eggs - can't get enough! |

Growing up I really hated minced beef - now I love it and cook it at least once a week - it's so versatile. I used to hate pork too,but I enjoy it now

Beef and Pork and a lot of meat - would always leave them sitting on the side of my plate as a kid but now love them.
Peppers - not sure why but they never appealed to me until a few years ago Lasagne - refused to eat it as a child but now like it |

Oh yeah, I used to hate the idea of liver and kidneys etc but now I love 'em. Also wasabi - thought it was like bright green deathpaste and now yum it up. My tolerance for hot and spicy stuff has generally gone up.
No one under 20 likes olives. It is a very grown-up food. I find them very hit and miss though - sometimes you get delicious ones and other times they're vile. |

Chickpeas used to make me heave - now I make my own hummous all the time. Peas - I used to HATE them as a kid (yeah, I know, this is a weird one), now I love them. I was never a big fan of fish and seafood growing up, though I would eat some - couldn't do without it now.

I agree about sprouts. I wouldn't say I hated them as we never really ate them much. Only really at christmas.
Over the last few years I haven't liked them because they have been frozen boiled sprouts. Anyway, I saw a nice recipe on a show for wok fried sprouts with streaky bacon, red onion and balsamic vinegar and it is a lovely dish. I had it twice last week. Only works with fresh sprouts though. Frozen sprouts don't do it for me. |

I wouldn't say 'love' as such...but I used to hate ice cream, I'd only eat 99s and Magnums and even those only very rare - I've gone a few years at least without any ice cream. And now it's kinda growing on me - I wouldn't choose an ice-cream but if I see an ice cream van I like a 99 and I'll eat the ice cream that comes with desserts in restaurants now. It's quite nice.

Capers - The first time I tried them I bought some ASDA ones in vinegar and they tasted rancid.
After wanting to try out some recipies I splashed out on a more expensive brand packed in salt and they were so much better. I doubt I could eat them straight up but they are nice in dressings and things such as tartar sauce. |
