Why is Chelsee so popular?

I think she is popular because she is good.

Unfortunately there are a few things about her that grate:

(1) Her Man-chest-tah accent. Those of us who live outside the north of England (the majority) are used to a generic 'northern' accent' so hearing the real Manchester accent is a bit of an unpleasant shock. It makes the Brummie accent sound melodious and sophisticated by comparison. The BBC and ITV have kept that one quiet!

(2) She is 23 she but she acts 13.

(3) She gorgeous - most of us aren't!

I'm looking forward to a Harry versus Chelsee final. It could turn this series into a classic. I'm just hoping that Robbie's fanboys and fangirls don't prevent this from happening

She is not my fave but I think she is adorable and so is Pash.

Never heard of her before the start (I'm not a soap fan) and was a bit surprised by the chavvy story line the BBC seemed to be giving her.
Don't mind the accent that much as I'm not that far away from where Chelsee comes from and even if I did her warmth, relationship with Pasha and her dancing ability and potential would win me over.
Seems to me she wears her heart on her sleeve and is a genuinely 'nice' young girl. Added to that I look forward to her dances each week more than any of the other celebs because I feel one of them will blow us all away and I want to see it when that happens.

Exactly. She might surprise us... there's a feeling of potential there and she doesn't know her own limits. So each week, you really don't know what you're going to get, whether she'll make a mistake or get the giggles, or get frozen with nerves, or make a real breakthrough. It does feel like you're watching for the moment when a chemical reaction finally happens.

Pasha's doing a great job steering her artless brand of talent. His patience and nurturing are a joy to watch. Which is a soppy thing to say, but there you go.

It seems to me the BBC invited her on SCD in order to appeal to the X-Factor/Take Me Out type audience. It's all part of the process of dumbing down SCD, literally

Have you spotted any unifying factors in the demographic of Chelsee's supporters?

I'm not sure what demographic I fall in to, other than being a DOT, but I am charmed by Chelsee. She seems to behave naturally, squealing with happiness, crying with mortification, I find it refreshing in a media savvy age

Are you being serious, or is that tongue in cheek ?
It may be "natural" in the land of reality tv, but far from normal behaviour for most 23 year old women I know.

I don't dislike her, but must admit, I do find her irritating. I'm not sure if she is really as dumb as she appears, but if it's an act, it doesn't impress me.
From the start I became prejudiced when I heard she had gone in for breast enlargement and that dreadful trout pout. I can sympathise with older stars desperate to keep their looks, but for a young girl to take that route in the hope of enhancing their career, just seems shallow and stupid to me. Since then, I've realised that she may have chosen surgery for psychological reasons, low self esteem etc..so I've warmed to her a little.

I hope her Jive with Pasha will get 10s on Saturday but even if they don't, I'm certain she'll have given her best and he will be so proud of her.”

Could not have said it better myself.

Ah, the main trouble with reality checking is that then you get the reality.
I think you'd find there's a diverse group of people with many different reasons for enjoying the Chelsee/Pasha partnership, and not just the dumbed down crowd you seem to anticipate.

The reverse of course might be to suggest that everyone who supports Harry is a either plummy-mouthed public school twit or has affinities with same, but obviously such a suggestion would both be a) false and b) disingenuous to those who just happen to have a certain way of speech and educational background.....(BTW I like both Harry and Chelsee - and take particular delight in the fact that despite their very different backgrounds they seem to like each other!)

Me too Sally. Well said! These two have lit up SCD (and I'd add Jason to the list too, though know it's not a popular view).

Oh really? You mean they're all Take Me Out fans on the quiet then

He'd probably make a good third finalist, but I do think his ballroom is stronger than his Latin (the other two I'd say are about equally good in both)

I liked her at the start and her accent doesn't bother me as I have two cousins from Manchester although I have to say hers sounds artifical. Over the weeks I've come to detest her. She's 23 for goodness sake not 13 and all that pretend hysteria over the bow falling off was ridiculous. Sometimes when the camera is on someone else she sits there with a face like a wet kipper which also annoys me as she is so lucky to be a part of SCD. Charmless, graceless, plastic little madam.

I can understand how certain accents/voices can irritate people as Alex's really grates on me.

Chelsee's is very strong, but I don't mind it. She does appear to act younger than she is and it does seem that the show is playing on her age and her "dumb" comments .. I find it a bit patronising but it's what happens on these type of shows

Personally I really like her and think she's a great little dancer and her partnership with Pasha is lovely ... so I'm not bothered about her background and if she supposedly doesn't fit into some sort of stereotype that everyone on Strictly has to be middleclass with an estuary accent

She seems a very popular member of the cast this year ..in fact they all seem to be very pally, a good bunch

I think you're mixing "the bow falling off" with her actually believing that her boob had popped out her dress .... at the time she had no way of knowing that if her dress had slipped down to reveal too much, nobody saw anything. I would think any woman of any age would be upset or concerned that they'd flashed their boob unintentionally on national TV infront of millions. She herself said afterwards that once she'd seen the footage and realised nothing could be seen she felt stupid for getting so upset

also, perhaps it's just me but "detest" is a bit of a strong word to feel about someone on a reality show that you don't even know

I'd like to see Chelsee, Harry and Jason in the final .... or perhaps Holly (but she's been bottom 2 a couple of times so don't think that will happen)

I'd like to see Chelsee win it but I wouldn't be upset if any of those won as I think they're all hardworking and decent dancers

Alex's accent ?..I love women with a Welsh accent, it's lush.
Did someone back there say Harry sounded like a plummy-mouthed public schoolboy ?..blimey, I probably sound posher than he does, and nobody has ever accused me of being a public school twit .
Leatherface!!!

She can dance, however I prefer and would like to see Harry win more as I think hes a better dancer, and has put in so much time and effort more so than the others (I know they have all, but Harry has done alot of training, and it shows)

I'm not sure how a contestant on a dance show can "dumb it down" as the contestant can either do the dance or not.....
