I think she did alot for music and really set the standards for other artists today!! She's sold over 400 million records and 12 no.1's in the u.s. She can really re-invent herself really well. She's had 37 u.s. Top 10 hits too

SHes a Music Legend....nuff said.

Why make these threads with Britney and Beyonce it was nice debate....but this is rediculous!

Madonna, Elvis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Marylin Monroe, Bette Davis, Judy garland, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Andy Warhol, The Rolling Stones.

THOSE are the Big guns of what are considered ICONS you know! Like absolute, definitive in culture as well as their respective mediums...in music, entertainment, art and film.

Whether you like what they have done, or relate to them or not is a different matter. I am not a massive fan of The Beatles but i love some of their work and albums...same with MJ i like an album and some hits you know!

Who keeps making these pointless threads? when the answers are always YES!!
especially when your mentioning the biggest names Britney, Beyonce , Janet , Now Madoona!
If your unsure what ICON means go look it up and make ur own judgement!

Exactly...i mean first Britney and Bey are mentioned who are what i think are (Eminem i think just behind) are the biggest icons of their time tbh.

Janet Jackson is a mahoosive icon and now Madonna too! Where there is basically no debate at all on it...they are Legends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean if you ask the question about people like Adele, George Michael, or christina aguilera (at one time perhaps) then you get a better debate as there is still a question or doubt remaining as to if they are iconic or legendary.

YES i feel that will be more interesting.

Seeing IF and how new artists can...and perhaps past musicians who were praised beforehand.

I think a Christina debate will be perhaps the most intriguing as we still dont know how she will develop forward despite my absolute adoration of her....her fame hasnt been on the scale of her peers....its more infamy and cult! Which i think makes it more exciting for Christina and fans really.

I feel that while P!nk is considered the "musical underdog" in Pop Christina i feel is the most overlooked despite being acknowledged for her vocals you know? P!nk has a mass global following whereas CHristina pretty much relies a lot on her cult fanbase at the moment.

problem with Xtina though is the problem with George they are not prolific artist's leaving gaps of four yars between material which makes it easier to scrutinize and therefore criticize.

Madonna is an icon no doubt.

All the big female artists around now have been influenced by her, and she revolutionized pop and the music industry. I don't care whether she's 20 or 50, she's still making great music.

Of course she is. Madonna, Spice Girls, Britney and Lady Gaga are the four big female pop icons of the last 30 years with Madonna of course bigger and more important than all the rest.

lady gaga, rihanna and katy perry are up and coming but we have to see where they are at still by the end of the decade to really consider them an icon as it is both britney and beyonce the queens of pop the last decade have already reached their iconic status.

Oh i wouldnt say that Spice girls launched the "girl power" phrase and phase in Pop music and really launched a new medium into what is Brit Pop. Their impact in 3 years is undiminished...they are a different type of Icon.

Madonna, The Beatles, Elvis, MJ, Sinatra, Monroe, Davis, The Stones....they are the PIONEER icons in culture and entertainment.

Then you have your pop icons of all the specturms ranging from Elton to Spears to Knowles to Tina Turner to Whitney to Mariah. Massive impacting artists.

And contemporary Icons in music.

Lady gaga and RIhanna i await to see and hear what they do

Of course she has been going almost 30 years and is still going strong and changing her style.

No other female act comes close and Lady Gaga will never last as long either

Since when has being an Icon been about talent?

Iconography is all about Pop Culture, Fame and generally just being memorable. Madonna's done a lot of that.

I think you missed the point of what I was saying. Having talent doesn't make anyone any more of an Icon than someone that doesn't.

For example, in an abstract instance, Hitler's facial hair is Iconic. And more Iconic than anything Gaga has done, or will do, to be honest.
