You could say the same of one of the greatest icons there ever was - Marilyn Monroe. Acting wise, she wasn't great but yet she had enormous screen presence.

Madonna was the first of her kind. There was only Blondie before her for classic pop and raw sexuality. Unfortunately the hits dried up for Blondie after 1980, where Madonna just about made her mark on every decade.

Think of the 1980s and you have these huge cultural pop icons - Michael Jackson, Prince, Springsteen and Madonna

I'm not really much of a Madonna fan (although I liked some of her singles) but you can't deny she is an icon.
