Stronghold on dogs

I've been giving my JRT/Collie cross this since I got him - now he's 12kg and has 120mg med dog once a month. Never had any flea problems as far as I could tell....I gave him the last dose on Sunday, but noticed his fur was crusty where I gave him the dose - anyway I've found 2 fleas tonight and he's very down, off his food and scratching lots - I think the last dose mainly went on his fur!! Would it be okay to do this months dose again or wait until tomorrow to get a low low dose from the vet....he's nearly a year old.
Thanks

Sorry to hear he's feeling down. Some dogs are allergic to the saliva in flea bites and it might be that your dog is one of them. If he is down it could be because of this.

I dont think you can give another full dose of anti-flea treatment straight away. I would go and talk to the vet about what to do. If its reacting with his skin I would swap to another sort. I would check with the vet but maybe you could get him a flea collar to wear until giving the next treatment? They might also sell you something to soothe the dogs skin. I have heard about this condition getting pretty bad and causing hair loss so best to check it out before he gets bad.

I didnt think fleas would be a problem in winter but when I said this to the vet they said when the central heating gets switched on for winter any dormant flea eggs can hatch. So maybe you should also get some flea power for any carpets and wash the dogs bedding too.

I remember your earlier post on his ankle biting - is he being better behaved now? Hope so!
