FOM ? not sure what that is ... all I can say is that Sky are giving viewers a choise of feeds on cars etc during the race.Well so they say.

Yes I meant Damon Hill not Hunt as I explained above. I would imagine that he would rather have stayed professional and not wanted have caused a scene.I remember DC backing off like a timid baby when Martin dared to try and interview Schumacher ... Quote:
and most of the fun of the grid walk was how rude Martin is to people.... now Martin is the man from Sky, I expect less will shun him like they did under the BBC ... could be fun viewing Sky v BBC on the grid
I kind of think that the drivers trust and respect the BBC far more than a television company owned by a mafia-esque pensioner and a sleazy geek.

Presumably at the 10 races the BBC are covering live Coulthard will be on a pit walk at the same time as Brundle. I wonder if they'll ever go head-to-head for an interview with a driver like MB has a few times in the past with European TV channels or if they'll pre-arrange where they'll both be so they avoid embarrassing clashes? I'd quite enjoy watching MB & DC going toe-to-toe to get 10 seconds with a driver, especially a British one.

Has anybody gone out and got Sky on the back of this?
I'm thinking about it... there's the £100 M&S vouchers plus the £100 back from quidco to take the edge off the pain, but then off course having forked out the £30 odd pcm your going to spend another fiver to get eurosport for their motorsport coverage....whats to be done

Thing is there's nothing else on Sky which I'm likely to watch. |

Formula One Management they produce the coverage you see at almost all the races nowadays (rather than local broadcasters).
So Clipper59 meant that Sky are only taking the extra feeds from FOM that are made available (rather than producing them themselves). I vaguely recall hearing something about Sky claiming that they were going to provide extra footage and it was pointed out that the feed comes from FOM but Sky claimed they were going to use the FOM feed and supply footage of their own as well. Somebody from Sky suggested that they would, for example, have additional footage of pitstops, pit-wall and team garages but it was noted that spurious camera crews are never allowed in the pit/paddock area so that's gonna limit where Sky can put cameras even if they want to. Perhaps they'll have their own helicopter in the air and, maybe, a camera crew and (female, no doubt) presenter prowling around in the hopes of catching an interview with a driver who's headed for an early bath for some reason? I can see that going well.

Horner also named Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus as contenders
Really????? ![]() I think the pre-season testing at Lotus is a bit of a bluff TBH. They must know that Kimi is a bit "highly strung" so they wouldn't want to piss him off before the season started so they probably ran the car in quite aggresive trim to keep him happy. Was thinking about this earlier, while watching Top Gear. I suspect that Kimi would get rather arsey if he found himself in a similar position to what Schumacher's in with Rosberg beating him so it's kinda lucky (?) that Lotus have Kimi paired with another newbie so as long as Kimi can beat Grosjean it'll probably keep him happy. |

Whether Sky (UK) will perhaps add extra stuff from Ted we don't know. |

If Sky are planning extra interviews, or additional material from the apron, then that would probably be okay, but it would most likely not be any different to what the BBC provide. For example, it is what the press pens were created for, to interview the drivers after the race, or when they have retired, to stop the meleé of reporters and their camera crews chasing drivers all over the circuit to ask, "what happened?" |

Yeah, but wouldn't it really turn the series on its head. I mean, Kimmi Reikkenon in a Lotus, to win the Drivers' Championship, that would really set the cat amongst the pigeons.
"OMG!!! We have 6 (count them; SIX!!!) ex WDCs battling it out for the 2012 crown!!!" etc. If a guy like Schumacher can't find his form straight away, after a couple of years off, it seems unlikely that Raikkonen (who's always been a bit unblanced) will manage to do any better. I thought Top Gear, last night, said a lot about the reality of the situation. Raikkonen was a second off the pace set by drivers such as Button and Hamilton in bad conditions. If the Lotus is at all worse than the RBRs or McLarens there's no way he's going to be in a position to take the fight to anybody. |

Some say that Kimi's lap was truly wet while the Mac Bros were only damp.

This will hurt the future of F1 in Britain in the long run. As for the coverage from sky, they will offer a load more, especially if you have an ipad/pc to hand (this side of things did look very impressive, if only they would have an app for android as well!!!. There will be a lot more options via the red button as well, camera angles, stats etc. Sky will take the FOM feed, like all broadcasters. As for sky providing extra footage from the race. They may well do, but it will be a FOM feed - which will be available to everyone. Not sure if FOM have some kind of tiered service or its is a one fee for everything. If think initially the sky service will be good. Since they have a full channel to fill the post race analysis will offer more then the 20 mins or so the BBC gave it. Each move will be analysed, all from different angles and shown several times. They will be throwing a lot of stats at the viewer as well. Anyone who caught the preview show - did you notice that RB had a new ' layered fin' type arrangement? It was something they used on the last day of testing. It seems the exhaust will be blown onto this 'layered fin' arrangement, creating a bit more downforce. Seems quite clever. |

![]() Also, IIRC, when Lewis did his it was raining and another car had dumped oil all over the track. Obviously the conditions are always gonna be different when these guys do laps but the fact remains that Kimi didn't exactly set the track on fire and it doesn't bode well for his ability to compensate for an inferior F1 car during the season. All I can say is that, much like Schumacher vs Rosberg, I reckon Raikkonen is gonna spend his season trying to outdo Grosjean rather than competing for the title. Course, I never was a fan so I admit I'm biased. |

I' ve just heard that Sky are promising to offer a free app for i pad 3 that allows you to drive a virtual F1 racing car in real time time during the GP and effectively you become an official entrant to the whole of the F1 2012 season, entitled to win a bottle of champagne and have Nicola Shurtsinger as your official girlfriend.
Personally all I would like to do is switch on my TV 25mins before the Race starts, at what ever hour of the day or night that might be, take in a little of the atmosphere and the weather conditions, then watch the whole Race LIVE from the Begining to the End, and finally, be reminded where and when the next one will be. No further gimmicks required. |
