Right now, the shock is if both the cars make it through the weekend...

As is the reason why I don't watch the Sky coverage.

Some rumours doing the rounds about Massa changing his gearbox, which would of course move Alonso up a place and onto the clean side of the grid. May just be a rumour...

To be fair to sky, they do like to big up any British driver. It just depends on who's doing well at the time. After qualifying, they couldn't say enough about Hamilton. It's the only thing I don't like about the sky coverage.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Sky's coverage. They've pretty much nailed it and Brundle is brilliant during the races.

Of course there's the bigger issue of whether it should even be on non-terrestrial TV in the first place, but putting that to one side I'm loving it. Don't even bother with BBC these days, even when they're showing a race live. It's a weaker product IMO.

Can no longer edit but Ferrari have confirmed that there is an 'unspecified problem' with Massa's gearbox that may need to be changed. The problem of course being Alonso is on the dirty side of the grid

I have just seen this on SSN, technically Ferrari are not breaking any rules apart from the rule regarding a gearbox change.

I pressume they would have to prove to the race stewards that there is a fault with the gearbox, although I would think it would not be too difficult to break a gearbox if you wanted too.

I bet Massa is peed off if this is just a ploy to get Alonso onto the other side of the grid.

I still don't think it will happen (I think the FIA will remind them that they would check the gearbox and, hey presto, the gearbox will work again) but it is just incredible that they would even have the cheek to try something like that.

Who knows, maybe they have a genuine problem, but since it is Ferrari, I wouldn't be surprised if it is just to help Alonso.

Well, if it is true, it fits with the ethos of the team. Which is: "One-driver team, plus wingman".

Whether it actually is broken (through natural causes) or not, who knows. Being Ferrari, it wouldn't surprise me. Could be a genuine fault though.

You are kidding, right? A definite legal cheat. Sad that they can getaway with it frankly.

Great for the race IMO even if its a bit on the dodgy side.

Most likely nothing wrong with the gearbox, simply Ferrari have removed the FIA seals and this the result Massa down 5 places and Alonso gets the advantage of starting 7th on the best side of the track

Let the smoking gun theories commenece

Ferrari have no qualms with looking into any way to get any advantage. In a way it is a team sport, but only one can win. Massa may be happy with his one year contract, but he will have to once again play second fiddle and it is almost pointless trying and pushing for a team that so readily will undermine you.

He nearly won the crown in 2008, but even with improvement to a level similar, he will simply have to give second best. Others licking their lips at the second seat in future, will need to question whether the position is about prestige or ambition, or lack thereof.

There's no question about. They have admitted it's nothing more than to get Alonso into 7th.

Can't you just foresee the headlines if Alonso now wins the title? The worlds press will rip him a new one before they have the crown on his head, I feel sad for Massa, he deserves better, been walking round all day with a face like thunder, this was all premeditated. So much for being a 'sport'!

Would have been hilarious If RB had decided to do the same with Webber, would have wiped the smug grin from Alonso's face

Typical Machiavellian Ferrari. I have never liked Alonso but his determination on the track this year has been impressive and as a fan of racing I can put my feelings aside and have have a lot of admiration for his effort, he has definitely raced like a champion. However I am forever tired with Ferrari and their ways so I cannot bring myself to wish for an Alonso championship however amazing that would be.

I hope Vettel all but wraps it up later.

I'm rather glad that Ferrari had the sense to come out and admit to it.

Far better to have this than the constructors having to lie through their teeth claiming a genuine fault when we know their lying, and additionally, they know that we know they are lying.

I'd do it to if it improved my chances of winning, their in the sport to win and at this stage Massa has no chance.

Brundle gets a penalty from Vettel on the grid walk - Coulthard keeps his position
Si_Crewe

Shennanigans from Ferrari.

I wonder if they should revise the rules so that any grid penalties are an even drop so that a car can't change sides by doing it AND that any penalty results in a space left empty on the grid rather than every other car getting promoted?

Anyway, hopefully Vettel will wrap up the championship this weekend so that Massa won't have to maintain his gimp act for his home race.
