If Ducati do not get their act together soon then VR may well be open to offers.

Massa's contract saved him from the axe, Perez is on the Ferrari Academy as well so he is the favourite.

Wet wet wet........

They should start this race earlier, if they have a 4 hour race limit they will never reach it,

4pm local race start, sunset 7:23pm.

Rain winning the day ATM.

Due to re-start though.

Grosjean is out early again.

For example, at high track temperature the option tyre might be soft enough that a driver can generate higher than expected slip-angles which manifest as understeer into corners and then scary oversteer on the way out again.

Basically, you turn the steering wheel, the contact-patch of the front tyre simply distorts and, rather than changing direction, you feel as if the car is going straight on and then the rear tyre distorts and weight transfers more than expected to outside rear of the car so if you DO manage to lose traction you'll be much closer to a spin that you expected to be.

And, of course, after a couple of laps of abusing the tyres like this, they'll be knackered.

S'funny really because we're all assuming that Vettels performance in Q3 was a really smart move because it means he should be able to do one less stop but, in fact, it could mean that the RBR (as driven by Vettel) heats up the tyres way more than the McLaren (especially as driven by Button) does.
If that's the case then Vettel might have trouble making 2 sets of prime tyres (the ones he starts on and the ones he gets at his first pitstop) last for long enough to allow him to make a second stop for a set of options and go on to complete the race.

Basically, if he's forced to replace his first set of hard tyres before about lap 23 he's gonna be forced to stop 3 times, just like everybody else.

Assuming, of course, it doesn't rain.
And, on that note, one day without the 4pm rain in KL is no big deal. 2 days without it is noteworthy but after that you simply assume it WILL chuck it down at 4pm the following day.”

Very interesting stuff! Thank you

I wish I could say it's a shame that we will never find out how it will work out, but from what you've said it seems a very bizarre decision to have qualified on a slower tyre when there was rain forecast, and when the likelihood of rain based on local knowledge would have been huge.

I suppose it was a fairly well considered decision.

I mean, if Button or Hamilton had deliberately traded a chance at pole for, say, 7th place on the hard tyre it would have been a dodgy gamble but, given that Vettel managed to qualify just behind Webber anyway, he probably figured that it was worth trading 4th or 5th on the grid for the possibility of one less stop during a dry race.

If it'd worked out he might've had an advantage and, as it turned out, he didn't really seem to suffer much of a disadvantage.

I hope Alonso or Vettel doesn't win this, would be great to see Perez top 3.

Shame to see Button crash but looks like its going to be a decent end.

Shocking pit stop cost Hamilton here. Overall awful day for McLaren.

Alonso winning would be a shame and if Vettel sneaks into the top three then it's become an awful day overall.

Hopefully a bit more rain to spice things up here.

Good driving by Button there

Massa's an idiot, trying to push Button off track when Button is clearly faster.

Geez, can't wait to hear Martin Whitmarsh explain why Hamilton can't catch the Sauber that they were around 1.4sec faster than in quali'.
