It's surprising. Even the the EBD has effectively been banned with the new exaust regs this year, teams are still able to do it because they can get the exaust flow to "stick" to the body work, thus feeding the diffuser.

But we can see how this has badly affected RBR , who still designed the car around the hot and cold blowing of the diffuser.

Gutting for Lewis Hamilton. Gearbox failure. The McLaren is another fast but fragile car.

Reliability gremlins from McLaren - last race was Button's fuel pump and this time for Hamilton, it's a gearbox failure.

Echoes of Raikkonen in 2005 this year for McLaren and Hamilton.

Who knows, but they should be leading both championships by a country mile. When you factor in the reliability issues, poor pitstops in early races and other operational errors, despite the fact they have a fast car in quali and race trim, things aren't really working out, in the sense that they have struggled to get both cars on the podium.

Yep. Fast car, fast driver, reliability gremlins and operational errors. I think at times this year, Hamilton's been plain unlucky.

Questionable decision from McLaren there, possibly.

Radio seemed to suggest that they knew Hamilton's gearbox was dodgy after quali'.
Maybe it would have been better to change the gearbox, accept any penalty and score some points rather than risk a DNF?

with hindsight yes. I would imagine they spent ages weighing up the odds and decided that the gamble was unlikely to backfire.

I wonder if Vergne was patting Schuey on the back and smiling for the cameras while saying "You f**king useless, senile old c**t" etc?

Just retire, Michael. Leave folk with the good memories.

This is why old people shouldn't drive!

Seriously, does he have the reactions of those younger around him on the track?

Geez, battle between Kobayashi, Perez, Hulkenberg and Webber more like a demolition derby.

Funny to think that some poor git in Milton Keynes has probably spent the winter figuring out how to make a suspension strut or hub a couple of grams lighter and then Vettel decides it's okay to carry a bunch of LEDs, wiring and a battery around with him for the race.

I just love the sheer lunacy of it. You can just imagine Horner and Newey having a serious meeting, Vettel in the corner playing with his train set, suddenly saying that he wants a helmet that flashes. Newey says no as it will add weight, but Horner, playing the doting dad, relents.

GET IN MARUSSIA!!!

Was jumping around like a loon when i saw Senna's car was out. An amazing season for a team that didn't make preseason testing, to push forward with some brilliant updates and catch up to a Caterham that seemed to be leaving them behind, eat that Fernandes! Viva Marussia!!!!

Hehe, indeed.

"Seb, we've been looking at the telemetry and we think that a 5% increase in brake bias toward the front might reduce the rear-limiting nature of the Singapore race. We've run the simulations and they suggest it'll work as long as we can run the suspension with an extra 5% of preload and 3 more clicks of rebound damping.
What do you think?"

"Erm, I want a crash helmet that lights up"
