She wasn't put through because she couldn't sing - she didn't go through because she projected the wrong image.

In the girls category they are either looking for pretty little things like Janet and Sophie (or Melanie who didnt make it) or those with big voices and personaliteis Misha and to a lesser extent Amelia (who manages to fit in both categories....

Jade didn't fit either mould. She looked fine at her audition, she was nicely dressed, made up and without her specs..... and sang a great song beautifully.

However, I think once they saw more of her at Boot Camp and judges houses where they saw the bag lady fashion, the heavy tattoos and the "couldn't care less how I look" appearance.... her card was marked for her - she was too quirky for the girls category. I know that I didn't actually recognise her at judges houses as she looked so different to how she did at her first audition - I only twigged it was her when I heard her sing.

That IMO is exactly what did her in. They're trying to find a popstar, not save someone from the cold winter nights on the streets. If she put more effort into playing the game, she could easily have made the live shows and done very well on the show.

To be honest the XF lost all its credibility when Janet and Sophie went through over Jade.

Janet and Sophie earned their places in the live shows.

In truth, all of the girls at the JH round had been very, very strong throughout auditions, so there really wasn't really a bad decision to be made.

Janet was very average compared to Jade, and I think Jade would have handled the live shows far better than Janet. And she'd probably remember the words to her songs too. Wasted space. Bad choice by Kelly.

I've been pretty critical of Janet the past few weeks and thought she put in the worst performance of the season and a contender for worst of all time, but she had a very good showing through the audition rounds, including Judge's House. I actually agree with everything you said about Jade being able to handle the show better and excel at it, but that's in hindsight. At that point in time when decisions were to be made, Janet had done enough to earn her place in the live shows.

Poor Kelly wasn't to know that Janet would mess up her live performances that badly! She had it pretty together at her audition and at the judges house stage. Janet also may have looked more marketable as a pop star than Jade, being petite and pretty and seemingly demure (this was the impression she gave at the auditions).

I agree with the person who said that her problem was not so much that she didn't have a popstar body but more that she made no effort to have a popstar look. She dressed as if she was just popping out to the supermarket.

Also, I thought her audition showed her as being quite average. It was a direct copy of Adele's version but not as good on the low notes and she chickened out of trying to hit the highest note.
