Chris Evans has just announced on his Radio 2 breakfast show that Gareth Malone and the Military Wives are singing on the Strictly Results show on Dec 11.

Anybody here in/know anybody in the choir?

I heard that and think it's fantastic, I hope it's good publicity for them to get to No 1 at Christmas

The song makes me cry though!

So pleased for them, and hopefully the Great British Public will buy it and raise lots of money for the charity

I am wondering if they will simply sing, or will be accompanied by any dancers - and what sort of routine might be suitable. Might lend itself to something of a cross between rhumba and ballet?

I think he's in his mid thirties, but he does sometimes look more like a schoolboy!

Thanks for the news, OP. Looking forward to this.

The series of programmes about Gareth Malone getting the choir started were wonderful.

that's great news, I love Gareth and have watched all his choir programmes, but the Military Wives choir is the most moving I think

I hope they're not accompanied by any dancers because this song very emotional so I would just like to watch/listen to the choir and not be distracted by dancers - on this occasion

If it's a properly choreographed, classic routine I think dancers could possibly add to the emotion.

Ideally I'd love to see Ian and Natalie dance to it, but I doubt that'll happen. Natalie and Brendan possibly. I'm not quite sure which dance could be done to it, it's a bit fast for a Foxtrot, it's in 4 so can't be a Waltz / Viennese Waltz.. maybe a sort of AS?? I guess a Rumba's the more obvious choice, but I think it's a song that would be beautiful for ballroom...

Brilliant! I too am a Gareth fan.

I do hope the Military Wives song becomes No.1 this Christmas - something meaningful and very very musical instead of an X-factor number would be perfect.

And a great tribute to our forces and their families.

Me neither Charmaine, or at least I'll mute it when those caterwauling women appear. My dad was a military man and my mum had to put up with him being away risking his life for his country, but just got on with it. Bleuurrghhh!

I'm looking forward to this. It was a lovely programme. I wouldn't mind them being accompanied by the dancers but unfortunately that means the audience will be joining in and clapping the dancers at every move. I think that's a bit disrespectful to the singer(s) whether it's someone famous or not.

If the producers didn't want the audience to applaud until the end, they could ask them not to, which is what happened last year when Vincent and Flavia danced to "The Soldiers" on Remembrance Sunday.

Yes. I'd forgotten that. It's much better when it's an emotional song. Perhaps they'll do something similar and just have one couple dancing.

My dad was in the RAF in WW2 - he had no choice - whether he liked it or not. And my mum had to get on with life...Doesnt mean I do not appreciate the Military Wives choir and the way Gareth Malone enabled those women to become united in song to express their feelings - Good Luck to them. I shall look forward to watching, and will be buying their CD to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

Oh gosh... I'll need tissues. I can't listen to this song without tears.
I come from a military family (dad - navy, 2 brothers - army, 2 nephews - air force ... one currently serving front line in afgan) and I think the sentiment behind this is wonderful.
My hats comes off for all those partners with loved ones serving abroad. I'm not sure I coukd do it tbh.
I will be buying it when it comes out for sure

I hope the Military Wives choir has success with their CD as it is for such a splendid cause. Gareth Malone's programmes about the establishment and training of the choir were a real eye opener to me. I'll look forward to seeing them on Strictly and I'm sure they won't be "caterwauling".
