I've been telling as many people as possible about this -it would be wonderful for it to be the Christmas No.1. Methinks Gareth Malone has a very long list of people who want to adopt him - I'm on it I love him and have thoroughly enjoyed all his series - he has a natural ability to get on with and inspire people from all walks of life simply by being positive and optimistic about everyone's ability to sing and the joys of singing.

Well he can jog on in my opinion. He has no divine right to anything. Prior to him, we had proper Number 1's at Christmas time...especially during the 70s and 80s.

It may not get to No 1, but as has been pointed out, the main aim is fundraising, not a race to top the chart

I completely agree with all these posts and am on the list of people who want to adopt Gareth, he has a good voice too and can play the piano beautifully ..... a very talented man I do like a man who can sing, dance or play a musical instrument, have just ordered the single and the DVD of the Military Wives Choir programme

It's private grief.

I don't particularly want to see people cry - but it happens all the time even in public.
Just the other week on Remembrance Sunday there were many people in the streets crying - and lot of those were old enough to have been around in the 40's without being bothered about it being unseemly.
I've cried in the cinema at a film, on the train at a book and in stadiums at music- and sometimes just because at random stuff.

Absolutely right. I was in tears during Remembrance Sunday the minute the bands started up, during Children In Need...and especially when the soldiers returned to their families during Gareth's series...terribly emotive.

It is fine for us Brits to show emotion now. Diana taught us that.

Totally agree. Great music is supposed to move you. Being moved is not the same as grief and I'm not aware that anyone has expressed the wish to intrude upon anyone's private grief.

I really don't see what the problem is. If people are moved by the song and you aren't then that's fine. They may not be moved by something that you do find deeply moving.

I didn't have adoption in mind: if I can't steal Gareth to be my toyboy, I'd at least like to abduct him to be my personal singing teacher!

His work, to me, is the antithesis of all this X Factor cr@p and it would please me greatly if their song knocked the XF one off its presumed perch (as another one who's old enough to remember Christmas No. 1s "before XF").

One paper is saying that the Military Wives Choir from "The Choir" will be performing in the Semi Final this Saturday. Their specially written song is going for the Christmas No.1.

Can anyone confirm that the they will be in the show ?

Yeah they are definitely on and Vincent and Flavia are dancing a showdance to them

Are we getting the results on Saturday...LIVE or are the results on Sunday as usual? It would be lovely if it all happened on one show.

IIRC last year the results show was on the same night but Moira Ross said on Chris Evans show that the results show would be shown on Sunday this year.

Oh yes, the songs during WW2, did elicit tears, I know I was around at the time, although quite young.

This isn't a criticism, so please don't be offended. As someone who has served and who's living with someone who still does I can say that even though certain songs and poems were written specifically for one conflict doesn't mean they aren't applicable for all.
