Foxsat hdr - archiving files over a network

I'm just starting to use Raydons excellent Media & File Server Bundle.
Is it OK to just move files from the hard drive via ftp, and then at a later date, replace them? I've got a lot of programmes I'd like to archive, and could do it with a USB device, but would rather not faff around on my knees if I can do it over the network.

thanks.

I believe it will be upset if the files go back in different folders than originally and that AV2HDR can fix this. Haven't tried it, can anyone confirm.

You might want to convert the recordings to a more compact mp4 format and then play them using a media player or tv/bluray that has network functionality, thats what I do. Conversion using Video Redo and Handbrake.

thanks for the reply.
I don't really need to convert or anything, I just want to remove files from the humax, to make more space, and then put them back when I want to watch them.
Most of them are HD, so if I move them, I'll have a lot more space. If I leave the directory names, and then copy them back into the same directory, will that be OK?
Don't want to buggar things up.

Yes, that should do it.

Yes that will be fine, just ensure you archive the two sidecar files, .hmt and .nts, as well as the main .ts file. You can delete any .tac folder of the same name. These contain thumbnail and chapter files for the recording and will be recreated by the overnight housekeping task as and when you restore the files.

Newbie to this software, I'm guessing I have to use my PC with the software? I installed it last night, the install screen came up on my Foxsat but nothing has changed on the box?

I assumed all the extras would be available directly though the box, I was only interested in adding non-freesat channels into the freesat epg anyway.

Thanks, that's just what I wanted to know.

Thanks for your work on the bundle, it's a great piece of kit.
