Have you ever looked down and unexpectedly found your cat on your knee?

I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes I find that I haven't realised that the cat has settled down on my knee!

I look down and unexpectedly find her there!

I wonder if it's because cats are so dainty, or, maybe our subconscious tells us to ignore it as we are so used to the cat and trust him/her?

Nope, my bruiser likes to dig his claws into my legs then jumps up on to my knee. Just as well I love him. He is heavy too so there is no mistaking him being on my lap.

yes, although I think I just forgot she was there. I went to put my arm down and felt this furry thing it gave me quite a shock! Another time I moved to get up and realised she was on my lap

haha nope, Ruby makes a very definite "rrooowwww!" before she ostentatiously deigns to jump into my lap (not very often!)

BUT I do often hear the same little voice give a little burble of protest when I accidentally hit her in the face in the middle of the night, sorry doodle

Elphie isn't a lap cat at all but will sit behind me on the arm as I'm lying on the couch, so she likes to sit close. Like clockwork though as soon as I'm in bed I feel the little paws kneading my hip as I'm lay on my side and I put my arm out to stroke her little ears

The bold bit for me.

We've got 2 cats and only one is a lap cat. The other will sit right next to you but never on you?

I often end up with a cat on my lap, hemmed in by a dog and a cat on either side!

Apparently, kittens knead the nipples of the mother cat to stimulate the flow of milk.

In adult cats, I personally think that it's their way of cuddling us, as they can't do it properly due to the shortness of their toes
