Is it just me, but i would like for a change a known personality to win strictly, i do not think this has happened since the first series when Natasha won, and whatever you thought of her at least you heard of her. Do not get me wrong i do not begrudge a less well known figure winning every other year and if it helps their career all the better, but i now think each year is now turning into the same, minor not widely known youngish names winning this, really Harry or Chealse, did 90 per cent of people on here know them before or after show will follow their careers, i am not being snobbish, that is not my point, but the BBC should balance this or the public will soon lose interest.

Such utter nonsense even by ds standards. The public lose interest when the majority of the contestants are dullards like series 7.
Look at I'm a celebrity 8-9m viewers a night for 3 weeks despite most of them being z listers but they're interesting characters with personalities/niches.
Alesha Dixon, Darren Gough, Chris Hollins and Tom Chambers were hardly big names to the general public.

Harry is probaly one of the best known celebs in the entire series and is at least twice as famous Natasha was then.
Chelsee has around the same fame recognition as Tom Chambers had, both stars of shows with 5-6m viewers.
I can see what you mean OP and I think it would give the show a big boost. The problem is that kind of celeb is just not going to do the show. 
But I do agree that to be a success the show hasn't needed big names because viewers get to know the celebs as the series goes on.
Edit: And Jason is pretty well known!

I'd never heard of Harry, Chelsee or Dan. But I agree, like IAC you get to know them during the series.

Don't think that is fair comment, alot of old Taxi drivers in forties or 50's in 1980's would have known who Duran Duran and Bros were without being fans, generational has nothing to do with it, it is just that a minor actress in a drama soap and a band member with a group that gets downloads in internet is not going to be known by mainstream public.

I fail to see how Jason beating Chelsee would boost the show. It's not as if it will boost the shows ratings or give the show more publicity.
That's not how television works.
Jill Halfpenny was fairly well-known as she been in Eastenders and Coronation Street. But really it's a matter of personal experience if you know the celebs or not.

If the best-known celebs were such a boon and draw to the public wouldn't they...vote for them rather than the less famous people who tend to win who they do actually vote for? (I'm not JUST thinking of Emma Bunton here, honest).

Neither Duran Duran, nor Bros, nor McFly are my generation yet I'm as familiar with McFly as I am with the other two and whether music comes on vinyl, cd or via download has nothing to do with it.

I didn't actually sat that Jason beating Chelsee would boost the show.
I was thinking about when Donny Osmond won on DWTS, the ratings for the next three seasons were each higher than the previous (the ratings dipped slightly last season).
The more viewers the show gets, the longer one of my favourite shows will stay on air.

The problem is, the show is strictly, a 'celebrity' based show, not just a dance competition, just look at BBC blurb which produce the show.

But that was partly as a result of Donny's series being a ratings trough due to a cast that was seen as lacklustre. I'd argue that the ratings renaissance came if anything off the back of casting controversial, trashier, more D-List controversial names like Kate Gossellin and Bristol Palin and big name sportsmen, not more famous or respected or long-term celebrities.
A really "well known" personality wouldn't be interested, that's why we get the "Z-listers."
A lot of famous people aren't exactly known for their work ethic.
A contestant has to be able to find the time to devote three months to this programme and be able of being taught to dance.
A "known personality" is unlikely to have the time, or interest, what's in it for them?
It's mostly seen as a vehicle to start new, or rescue flagging careers.

I am realistic i understand you will not get A,B,C listers, however i do think you could get at at least 6 known celebrities, and why not add six members of the public to dance, thus you get best of both worlds, celebrities and members of public to get chance, rather then as moment a whole series filled with z listers.

Exactly - expecting someone like Daniel Craig, Ewan Mcgregor or Helen Mirren is totally unrealistic.
Can just imagine Craig having a go at an A lister
I think I understand what the original OP is getting at. This year is slightly better in that there is only one soapstar, Chelsee, (well Anita but she is not a current soapstar)vusually there are a few and for people who don't watch soaps - and there are a lot of us - we have no idea who these people are.
I'm sure the BBC could find more retired sports personalities, celeb chefs, newsreaders, failed X factor contestants
etc. who could find time to do the programme, it's not as if it's dangerous like Dancing on Ice.

You'd never get the BBC to include members of the public.
Half the fun for the viewers is the sense of schadenfreude when someone on the TV or in sport who they recognise,
(they don't have to be particularly well known), goes out.

Anyone celebs in mind ?
Most people would have heard of at least 6 of the celebs this year Lulu, Edwina Currie, Audley Harrison, Rory Bremner Jason Donovan and Russell Grant so I really don`t know who you would expect to see on the show tbh.
Really well known people, at the top of their game, don't need the publicity - the career boost - and are too busy to do a show which takes such committment. You do get to know the contestants during the run of the show
