My granny who did most of the day-to-day bringing up of my sister and I died on December 21st when I was 14 and my sister 20. It's hard - for example, when we were putting up the tree today, we were thinking about her. But in a way it's then easier to remember her as there are all the cues, which may not seem like much now for them, but is a help. And the fact that they are old enough to both miss him now and retain memories of him is also good, once the inital grief subsides.
