Had this problem since they changed to Silverlight but hadn't really done anything about it until now. However with the winter sports season now underway I'm keen to get it resolved.

Under the old player I used to be able to stream Eurosport HD at 3500kbps without problem but now doesn't go above 1800kbps. My downstream speed is consistantly over 5Mbps whenever I test it, am I missing something obvious?

I've tried both with IE9 and silverlight 3.6 and now with Firefox 8.0.1 and silverlight 4.

As they say in the trade, "apart from that how was it for you?"

I'm looking at the Eurosport Player offer (£35 for 1 year) and thought it would be just too rude to leave it behind. The prospect of finally being rid of Sky is definitely toothsome.

You've already answered if HD is available, but how does it perform generally?
I'm with TalkTalk and on a solid 7.7Mbps and a DGN2000 router, so I should be able to handle the bandwidth. However, my experience with Internet Radio tells me that the Broadcasters are not handling their end, so popular streams often fall over.
If an Ice Skating final seized up the mem sahib would take a very dim view and address me most sternly!

Aside from my current problem and one I had a few months back with billing, they forgot to bill me one month then made up for it in spades the next, it's been fine. I've been a subscriber since giving up my Sky HD subscription in Feb. I've not used it much the past couple of months but the skiing I've been watching for several hours yesterday and today has been rock solid. Just a shame there was a bit of break up on the links back from the US and Canada. Ocassionly you might get a bit of buffering or the stream freezes and you have to switch channels to get it back. For the £3.99 a month it costs me it's a steal.

You have been lucky. I paid a full year's subscription in February but it was cancelled in April and they have yet to reply to me to sort their cock-up out. A small claims court action is in the offing.

Thanks for the info, looks like it's a runner.

edit......

BTW what do you use to get the stream displayed on your telly?

I am having a problem with eurosport player, where the stream works fine at 1800kbps when not in full screen mode, but as soon as I go to full screen mode, the bitrate drops well below 400kbps and it becomes too jerky to watch. It's not my internet, and I've tried it in 3 browsers. Support have been useless so far.

Anyone else with this problem?

I suspect they are just having some technical problems at the moment. Trying to watch the mens biathlon right now and can't get anything above 400kbps - absolute joke and I know it's not my connection as I just checked an HD stream from iplayer which was perfect.

I have one of the outputs from my PC's graphics card connected direct to my TV so just drag my browser window over and make it full screen.

PCs in the sitting room is an absolute non-starter, I'm under permanent restrictions from the boss regarding "all that junk" under the telly!

There appears to be a Freesat HD box from Technisat that has high speed wireless connectivity. Anybody know anything about it? I find a lot of references in German, so I'm doubtful about UK support.

I was going to sign up for Eurosport and found they've withdrawn the £25 for a year deal, so the pressure's off. They do appear to be a bit of a shambles.
Catching up with Attenborough on my iMac it was dropping out all the time, so my idea to check the feasibility that way won't work...
thinks... aTV Flash???

I had exactly the same problem. I was able to fix it by installing Silverlight 5 Developer Runtime. No I have most time 1800 kbps in fullscreen with Opera or Firefox.

Thanks Urs, just installed the latest developer version and it has at least got me back to streaming at 1800kbps.

Me, very jittery in full-screen mode, so I am trying SDR - hope it works!

EDIT - I have, and it works! Thank you for the help!!
Pity Eurosport can't be bothered giving FAQ pages, but still, we only pay for it, what does that matter??

I've bought the 1 month subscription to the player few days ago and I've noticed the playback isn't smooth as it is at YouTube for example. Is this because of the Silverlight? I have no experience with this Microsoft thing really. I'm always at 1800kbps.

Sorry to bump and old thread. I installed Eurosport Player for my mum, the test video worked fine but when it comes to actually viewing the stream - nada. It just doesn't play at all. I'm going contact their customer services to find out what we can do about it, but I have a feeling that it's probably related to my mum's broadband speed, I think she gets about 3mb...

Their website is dreadful, not exactly helpful really is it!

Yes I installed it just after I had set Eurosport for her.
