Because she sat there grinning like an idiot while he made his joke. Had she challenged him I think she'd have won enough admiration to sail into the semi-finals.

And now we hear that The One Show people had approved Clarkson’s script beforehand, so they all must have a twisted sense of humour. Smug BBC presenters making fun of those less fortunate than themselves.

We have a thread for best post of the day.....do we have one for most ridiculous post of the day ???

Oh for crying out loud!

Clarkson was making a joke about the BBC and how it has to be impartial in these days of political correctness - he wasn't actually poking fun at or being nasty about the strikers. This is blindingly obvious if you listen to the whole interview.

But as usual, people get their knickers in a twist and get the whole thing out of proportion

You've agreed with my point, enough knickers will have been twisted to cut into her support!

Come on OP...be fair, it was 'LIVE' telly. I could tell Matt and Alex were mortified.

I saw the whole thing as I am a One Show fan...and he was blatantly joking. Would I have said what he said? No...but then I am not Jeremy Clarkson.

Of course she wont lose votes, she didn't say anything wrong. I love Alex. I think she is really genuine...and good fun. I really want them all to go through to the semi final next week.

A BBC basher me thinks OP...

Agreed. She can hardly be responsible for Clarkson opening his mouth before he put his brain in gear.

No point, 500 posts a day will deadheat.

No, I went to the Christmas Special this week and it was super.

It wasn't that she didn’t say anything wrong, she didn’t say anything at all.

It doesn’t matter what you or I think about the BBC or Clarkson, I feel enough people were alienated by what he said on that show to affect her support.

And you know this because?

I think Alex will go tomorrow just because Robbie will get the public's support, but I would venture it will have nothing to do with anything Jeremy Clarkson said.

Absolute rubbish OP. It was a joke and this thread is a joke. If you read Clarkson's column in the paper you would know that he rants like this all the time.

It now seems it was pre-approved by the production team!!

It will certainly help his videos sales!!

Most sensible people also know he was joking. A lot of people are bandwagon jumping too.

In her defence, I don't think she knew what to say...she couldn't get a word in. Her vote wont be effected at all. A lot of people like her. I think she could go through to the semis.

Any spoilers for the Christmas ep? I can't be bothered to watch it knowing it isn't 'LIVE'.

Alex Jones will go tomorrow because she is a useless dancer and an annoying woman not because of anything to do with Jeremy Clarkson

Tone of voice is the all important factor. If he was serious, he would have been sacked or he would have resigned. He wasn't being serious. I speak as no fan of Clarkson at all. I speak as I find.

You are right, we've been here before and he has a DVD to sell, but that's not my point.

It's patently obvious that enough people did not get the joke, or at least did not find it funny and these are the ones who I feel won't vote for Alex.

You see, if she had come up with a quick-witted response then that would have helped her.

Oh you must watch the Christmas special! Merry Christmas, Everyone.

All this smacks of people choosing to be offended.

I'm not watching it because the 'Specials' are always a let down...and it isn't 'LIVE'. If it was 'LIVE' I would. Not interested in a pre-record...one reason why I am not into The Result's Show.

But your argument falls down if there was one at all because the vast majority of people don't vote. Of those that do, a lot will vote on the dance on the night and not because of something some windbag said on the One Show.

If we take the opposite view, Alex would have won if she'd have said something to him. Nah, can't see that either.

Lots of people think what he said was a joke, you know not to be taken seriously and I think the vast majority took it that way.

Wow, you're looking at the wrong person if you're expecting quick witted from Alex!

No I don't agree with that, she has had some good put-downs for James. I do think these sort of things get votes from a reality TV audience. Like when Craig tackled Nick in BB1 or Will Young answered back to Simon Cowell.

I've quite liked Alex on SCD and ITT.

Having just seen the JC incident (on Have I Got News For You) it was blatantly obvious how Alex squirmed physically and her mouth twisted in disgust at what was said!

I had hoped this thread would die a natural death but you keep posting!

Thats not very fair. Its not Alex's fault with what Clarkson spouted! Im not supporting Alex, but she's giving it her best.

Thats what an ordinary person does. A presenter is supposed to take control of a situation. While we sit there biting our lips, it is not professional of presenters to do this. They are supposed to be able to handle these situations. That is what they are paid to do.
