But not disgusted enough to do anything about it. A passer-by who did not intervene.

You should try to get a ticket, then you'll get the best of both worlds. Me and my guests can't wait for Christmas day to see how it turned out.

It wont matter as she will be overmarked this week by the judges , the bbc want her in the final

When Alex goes it will be because she is not as good as the other dancers that are left, not what someone does or doesn't say on the One Show.

Yes, and I suspect that Jeremy knew he had a soft audience. He wouldn’t have got away so lightly if, say, Diane Abbott or Bob Crow were in the studio.

What on earth could she do except try to get to the next item as soon as possible, "challenging him" would just drag it out.

If the production team wanted then they could just have started the next item and switched to it and spoken to everyone off camera.

The first gag was fine and was just making fun of BBC balance. Calling for strikers to be shot was no worse the the Lefties calling for bankers to be strung up from lampposts, I would not be surprised if some of the marches on Wednesday had things like that on cards.

The objectionable bit was the stuff about suicides which went over the top.

UNISON shot themselves in the foot by ensuring that all the headlines were about Clarkson and not their strike and calls for workers in the private sector to subsidise their pensions.

And they come across looking like they are pompous buffoons who can't take a joke.

Lots of the general public who work in the private sector and have little or no pensions already had little sympathy with them as it was, so now they've just given Jeremy Clarkson the oxygen of publicity for his dvd and made themselves look ridiculous.

As hostess of The One Show it is not Alex's job to define political correctness or draw the line along which she wants a guest to verbally walk. It would be truthful and revealing for guests to behave as themselves. The viewers will form their own judgments. If a guest spouts racist, sexist comments or in this case incites mass violence against strikers, the most the hostess can do would be to say with a sweet face, "This is the private view of our guest, from which The One Show dissociates itself."

It all happened very quickly. How many of us would be quick enough to think through all aspects then intervene with a crisp oneliner within one second? Next time for sure, Alex will be prepared and ready. Such a sweet young woman, I want to take her in hand and coach her in the ways of the world.

I happen to write all Jeremy Clarkson's lines for him and am taking care that as he grows older and greyer people won't forget him. I really don't want this British treasure to sink into obscurity and so, from time to time, we have to seize whatever opportunity the media offer to get dear Jeremy back onto the front page.

Please do not scupper this process by linking Jeremy to the two whosits who dared to sit on a sofa in his presence.

Thank you for your attention.

Both Matt and Alex pointed out that the views were only Jeremy's.
I was on strike and I found his comments typical of him - outrageous and quite amusing.

This wont affect Alex's chances at all. People will remember the comments but most have probably forgotten she was even there.

I'm not wearing my glasses and I thought it said '...because of charleston...'.

I didn't think it was THAT bad! Any why would it cast a malign spell over another week.

But then I actually read a few replies and it seems it's about an even more shallow bit of nonsense.

This thread is nonsense. I very much doubt anyone will sit there tonight and think, bl**dy Alex did not say anything when Clarkson made his striker comment.

What a load of rubbish. You need to realise there are also people who don't support the strikes and may vote more for Alex because of the exposure received as a result of the Clarkson episode.

I think Alex's support is being underestimated massively on here. I'm surprised she isn't doing better at the bookies either.

I don't think it will have any effect on her chances either, she will go tonight because she is the worst dancer left in the competition, and nothing to do with Clarkson

A tosser appears on The One Show and makes tries to be funny, it's hardly Alex's fault. I doubt she's in a position to pick and choose the guests. Of course, I would have loved her to lean over and say..why don't you just p*ss off, you dozy c**t..but it was never going to happen.

Nope, would have lost the 3.5 votes from all the Jeremy Clarkson fans (one is a bit of a floater).

Or perhaps the half vote is Hammond

Can you imagine if presenters were held responsible for the comments of all the guests on their shows. Should newsreaders be pillioried for reading stories about serial killers. Dimbleby put in the stocks for every idiot comment on Question Time. What a daft thread and an insult to the voting public . . . .

Um. I would vote for Alex tonight if she danced well. I can't see how anything else is relevant.

She's paid to be eye-candy. SCD is MOBILE eye-candy. What Jeremy Fartson says is of no consequence.
