What on earth could she do except try to get to the next item as soon as possible, "challenging him" would just drag it out.
If the production team wanted then they could just have started the next item and switched to it and spoken to everyone off camera.
The first gag was fine and was just making fun of BBC balance. Calling for strikers to be shot was no worse the the Lefties calling for bankers to be strung up from lampposts, I would not be surprised if some of the marches on Wednesday had things like that on cards.
The objectionable bit was the stuff about suicides which went over the top.
UNISON shot themselves in the foot by ensuring that all the headlines were about Clarkson and not their strike and calls for workers in the private sector to subsidise their pensions.
