Are there any NEW Sci-Fi shows that will be shown in 2012?

I think that new UFO-related sci-fi show from AMC called THUNDERSTRUCK is starting in 2012. Not completely sure though.

No, AMC just bought the pitch for that, to put it "in development." A show in development may never be made at all, and even the series AMC has spent ages in development before getting on the air. Take their most recent show, Hell On Wheels. It just debuted in November, but AMC bought the idea about two years ago. In short, if we see Thunderstruck at all, I doubt it will be before 2013, and probably not the first half of the year.

Yep, I was aware of Hell on Wheels being in development for a few years. What a great show that is by the way.

What about this sci-fi show STRANGE PLANET? It says in the article that it "will air in some capacity in the 2012/2013 television season". But is also in development, so who knows if it will actually air in 2012. But it seems it's being produced for the 2012/2013 season

The only other upcoming sci-fi show that I know is coming in 2012 is ALCATRAZ.

You have Alcatraz and Touch both on Fox
Paranormal thriller The River on ABC
And REM (Previously Awake) on NBC

All of the above are being rolled out early 2012 as "mid season replacements". Also, season 2 of Being Human (US) on SyFY, and of course series 4 of Being Human UK.

Furthermore, in the Summer we will get a second season of Falling Skies (), and all the usual SyFy Channel Summer shows - Eureka,. WH13 and Haven and also MTVs Teen Wolf returns for season 2.

I know there are also one or two cable TV projects planned but am unsure if they will air during 2012 and I cannot find my old threads for them. I am sure one of them was to air on a Canadian cable channel - MoreTears maybe you could remind me which TV project this was?

You mean Awake, which was previously REM (or have they decided to change the name back to the original title?)

Anyway, The River, Awake and Touch could all be fantasy rather than science fiction.

There's Primeval: New World from Canada, and the BBC have got a co-production of Philip K Dick's The Man in the High Castle on the go. Haven't read it, but apparently it's an alternate history story, after WW2 turns out differently.

Given that the Inmates from Alcatraz disappeared over 60 years ago and appear in the present day looking exactly the same as they did then I would say it's a bit "science fiction-y"

Does Alcatraz being a mid season mean it is not likely to succeed? I guess the biggest mid season programme that did very well is Cold Case.

Ahh, that sounds a bit more promising [edit: gaaaaaah! Goodnight Sweetheart just popped into my mind] . I suppose the acid test is whether their reappearance is merely a "deus ex machina" event or if it integrates into the scope of the programme (plus of course whether the acting/writing/direction is any good).

Not to mention whether the show ever makes it across the Altantic

True enough

As I recall ITV showed it on Saturday afternoons around about tea-time and I don't think they showed the whole series

I also remember at the time quite a few people said that Time Trax was somewhat of a rip-off of Quantum Leap bearing in mind it featured time travel and the hero's sidekick was computer generated

It is not really a science fiction show - just one which has a science fiction hook - it is going to be more like a police procedural than a science fiction show.

Blood and Chrome entered production but there are reports that it might get demoted back to a web series (see http://www.moviehole.net/201144745-s...ome-on-the-air) - sounds about typical for SyFy - a science fiction channel that does not like science fiction
