Hi Folks
The Humax Freesat HDR is designed to be use as Freesat box. However with Raydons software it gives streaming etc facilities. You are tying to record a FTA channel Which does not have epg data the set is designed to recognise. You should buy a sat receiver/pvr suitable for european channels and don't be stingy.

Most of the time the Foxsat will be used as a Freesat PVR. 10 weekends a year, it would be good to be able to also record the F1 from RTL when BBC aren't showing the full race. Scheduling a manual recording of RTL is easy once it's been made a Freesat channel by the Web Channel Editor. The only issue seems to be that the scheduled recording doesn't persist through overnight housekeeping and the box must be left switched on.

What's the point in Humax making the box support non Freesat channels, Diseqc etc, then stripping out even basic manual scheduled recording functionality?

Humax just never added non-freesat scheduling. Housekeeping is just tiding up what it thinks is a freesat channel which no longer exists (until the channel editor puts it back).

Ah, that's a good explanation. So what we need is either:

1) Ideally, some sort of scheduled process to run before the 3:00am housekeeping to capture the non-Freesat schedules, then another that runs after the housekeeping (how long does it take...!) to reload those non-Freesat schedules.

2) Alternatively, if there's only an occasional need to schedule non-Freesat overnight, then some reliable way of being able to prevent the 3:00am housekeeping from running.

3) Hope that Humax add non-Freesat scheduling capability.

Cheers

Last night I set up a random record on RTL from 0220 to 0444, then another from 0630 to 0730. Both recorded.

Seems that setting up a schedule to cover the 3 am slot stops the housekeeping. Now it depends how long that period should be.

Great - I'll try that tonight too and see if it will retain the RTL schedule. Will report back tomorrow.

Normally housekeeping lasts less than 5 mins.

My box deleted all my non-freesat channels off the epg again, it's only just started doing this.

Have you upgraded to Humax firmware v1.00.18 or v1.00.20?

If yes Raydon has not yet issued modified firmware to work with v1.00.20.

Any freesat channel change could trigger this using the old moogie channel editor. The channels must remain in order. The new version handles this perfectly - by removing then it's self when housekeeping starts and reapplying them on the first boot after. I would update if I were you.

Last night I scheduled a recording of RTL to span the 3:00am housekeeping and then two subsequent recordings at 6:00am of both RTL and R5L. All of these recording have worked fine.

So it seems that scheduling a non-Freesat recording spanning the 3:00am housekeeping prevents any other non-Freesat scheduled recordings from being removed. This is a reasonable workaround for those of us only wanting to occasionally schedule non-Freesat recordings .e.g for F1 when BBC aren't showing the full race.

What's not clear is whether this prevents the 3:00am housekeeping from running at all, or if it just tricks it into retaining the non-Freesat schedules.

It stops it running, setting a auto power on and off will do the same, as will setting a watch only reservation.

Yesterday I set 3 RTL channels to be recorded early Saturday morning but this time I did not switch the Foxsat off. This I think prevents it doing any housekeeping. Anyway the programs remained to be recorded.

There must though be a way to avoid these programs from being deleted without leaving it switched on.”

The only way to do this would be to back up the schedule for all channels > 5000 when housekeeping starts to boot and to restore them on the next boot.

Which is the way the channel editor handles the channel changes themselves - It is being investigated.

One of my first tests was to leave the box on overnight. This did NOT prevent the scheduled RTL recording from disappearing. So I'm not convinced that either of the above suggestions will work, but I'll test them out over the next few days. Setting a daily watch only reservatoin would be a neat solution as it would prevent unnecessary recordings, but is it really a good idea to permanently prevent the daily housekeeping? It must exist for a (good?) reason?

Thanks for the ideas.

Housekeeping does the following - Retunes all freesat channels - to pick up any channel changes, Downloads the EPG and writes it to disk, produces programme thubnails, ages off expired series links and perhaps more.

My channels appeared again randomly, Channel4HD hadn't been changed so I've had to do a Freesat tune to sort it, all back working now, happy.
