I have the chance of a good deal on this but reading all the reviews most people seem to complain about the noise of the hard disk. Has anyone any experience of ownership of one of these?
For instance nearly all the reviews on Amazon slam it for noisy operation and I just wondered if Sagemcom had done anything about this by now.

The Sagem dtr 94xxx series all have a cooling fan and it can be heard running when the unit is operating, but the level is dependent on where it is installed.
I simply stuck four soft rubber "feet" on the bottom of the unit which substantially reduced the noise. Because the unit is much lower than most other boxes, there isn't a height problem in most TV cabinets.
Once done, you shouldn't notice the noise much at all.

Thanks your advice.
I have also now seen a thread on the sagemcom forum

I am tempted to buy but as the set will be located in my bedroom and most recordings will be done when I am asleep I think I will give it a miss.

The fan on the 94xxxS series is about the size of a laptop processor fan or one used on a high end Graphics card and is not powerful enough to get rid of the heat that is generated by the unit. I had the Sagem 94500S for about 2 days before taking it back and exchanging it for the Humax Foxsat-HDR 500 because the heat that the unit generated could not be cleared from the unit quick enough and the unit kept crashing, even after putting rubber feet on to raise the height of the unit. You can get good deals on these units because people don't want to buy them because they aren't fit for purpose so retailers are trying to off load them.

You may have had a problem, Roland, but here we often get ambient temperatures in excess of 30deg.C and our Sagem unit doesn't crash even when the HDD is reported to be at 46deg,C!!

The day I took it back it started only working in 1 tuner mode even though both feeds from the MTI Quad LNB into the house were plugged into the Sagem, it then made a crackling noise so I unplugged it and returned it for a refund. I was then going to buy a Samsung PVR but my local Richer Sound didn't have it in stock, so I decided to go for the Humax Foxsat-HDR 500 from Argos and never had any trouble with it, so there was deffinately something wrong with the Sagem PVR, also the UI of the Sagem seems a bit user unfriendly when it's compared to my Sagem Freeview+ PVR and it seems crazy to have 1 folder per recording e.g 2 Episodes of The Big Bang Theory Recorded on Saturday get placed into 1 Folder then say 2 Episodes of The Big Bang Theory Recorded get placed into a seperate folder to the 2 Recordings recorded on Saturday, where the Foxsat-HDR is more logical and places 2 Recordings of The Big Bang Theory on Saturday into 1 Folder, then places 2 recordings of the Big Bang Theory on Monday into the same Folder as the 2 Saturday Recordings then Auto deletes the Folder when the last Episode is deleted.
