born this way is really different from her early material (the fame and the fame monster). she uses some rock, pop, electro and dance genres. i think that gaga wants everything to sound different instead of making her music the same.

I believe she has brought back TRUE Pop music. I.e. Very clever and exciting pop music. Not trash like JLS and The Saturdays bring out, But then that is due to the fact Gaga is quite intelligent and writes her own music. She's a good'un is Gaga, wish people would see that.

This......Music is music from Beethoven to Al Jolson to Sex Pistols to Bieber - no need to analyse everything like a NY Times music critic.

sorry I completely disagree. If Gaga had bought out "Notorious" by the saturdays or something along those lines people would be praising it to high heaven, the truth is she really isnt that different to the pop music thats in the charts at the moment

There's no such thing as real music, music is music there's lots of music I hate but it doesn't make it any less "real"

Real music is guitars, drums, bass and singing. Lady Googoo has one of those.

'Real' music has never been away so Gagga can't really bring anything back, can she? She may regurgitate similar sounds, however, if that's what you mean

So piano doesn't count as 'real music'?

'Real' music is when you're playing an instrument of any kind (including your voice), it's just whether or not it's in tune.

Yes, the electropop thing is very 'in' and very overdone right now, but unless you can't sing at all then I'd say it's pretty much 'real'. Gaga has some amazing pipes on her, particularly when she's in a stripped back setting.

However, I don't agree with the title of this thread - I don't believe she's 'bringing real music back' - I think what she's doing is taking influences from things she loves about music (Whatever genre) and putting her spin on it, while making it 'in with the trend' and what is 'current'. Which is a good idea, and what is helping her sell. I think she makes brilliant music, but so do many other people who are out now (in a variety of genres, not just pop).

They really aren't.

Music has slumped since the heydays of the 80s and 90s.

Real music is not geenrating songs on a computer which is exactly what she does.

In the 80s and 90s you had people saying that music has slumped since the heydays of the 60s and 70s.

And in the 60s and 70s you had people saying that music has slumped since the heydays of the 40s and 50s.

And in the 40s and 50s you had ... well you get my drift.

I wouldn't say she's brought anything back. Her music is no more profound, deep or touching that Ke$ha's, Britney's and Katy's. It's just average pop music that seems to treated as though it's so much more purely because of her increasingly boring theatrics. There are far better acts out there releasing pop music.

Each to their own I guess.

Music hasn't slumped. It's the dominance of rubbish like X Factor and similar shows, and the death of a great DJ, John Peel that have meant that mainstream radio stations play a far more narrow selection of pop which appeals to teenyboppers and those who have little clue about quality. There's plenty of good bands and artists out there but only a few ever get a hearing and you have to search it out more.BBC 6 Music is one area where the better stuff gets played. No Gaga or Rhianna found on there.

Aren't you the one who created the 1,000 "is (insert female artist's name) an icon" threads ? and the "is Mary J Blige the black Cher' thread?

If someone heard GaGa without knowing who she was or every seeing her, it would just sound like any old generic pop to them. Because that is exactly what it is, there is nothing special about the music at all. GaGa is all about image, not music.

Flipping heck if everyone was like you we wouldn't have moved out of the stone age

You haven't a clue what your talking about

Music is music wether its made on an oil drum in a steel band or a program on a computer or god knows how many other ways

How we create music is only restricted by our imaginations and with respect yours seems to be seriously lacking
