Jamelia - "No More" great song from a few years ago. Why did it flop?

I remember it being played a lot on radio! Yet it only made #43 in the end apparently Was it due to the backlash of Jamelia using the "Golden Brown" sample on her song? I personally thought it worked well.

Jamelia has never sold as well as her talent deserved IMO. I think the failure of No More was to do with the fact she already used a famous sample on her previous single Beware Of The Dog (it used Personal Jesus) so I think she came across a bit lazy releasing No More as her next single which had a sample from Golden Brown.
I do miss Jamelia. I think she'd be perfect as a judge on X Factor.

TBH the album in itself wasn't briliant and she did a pixie lott a good first album and a mediocre follow up and no more was okay but it was hardly pops greatest moment.

Jamelia had 3 albums. Drama was her debut which was good, but hardly great outside of the singles. Thank You was much better.

I'd say she's more like Alesha Dixon really i.e. first album does nothing in the charts, second album has a smash hit single and sells loads, third album is the best of her career but somehow flops.

Its a shame really. I think Walk With Me was fantastic. And Something About You - Beware Of The Dog - No More was such a perfect singles run.

Due to lack of popularity at that time.Put simply, people weren't checking for her.The lack of momentum was reflected in the embarassing album sales and she only got 2 hit singles out of the album because of the radio play she was getting. However, you just can't have 3 successful singles out of a flop album...it's impossible.Any 3rd release at that time would be doomed, so it's not that much about the song imo

Too formulaic. As someone else has already mentioned, after Beware of the Dog it looked like she was using samples rather too much. I think they took her too far from her R&B roots and tried to put her in the mainstream. I always prefered her more risky stuff like 'Bout, Cutie, Hustle and Do Me Right.

Hate to say it, but to me she's like Leona Lewis.
Great voice but zero personality.

Well the use of samples never hurt The Fugees who had hit after hit with sampled music.

That being said, I think Jamelia's attitude, always playing it safe, being critical of artists superior or who came before her and unwed mother status with two different baby daddies played a huge part in her flops.

She has a personality but the wrong attitude. She used to run off her mouth a lot and that rubbed many people and fans (of the artists she slagged off) the wrong way.

I remember this flopping, and I think a big part was her image change at the time.

she went from being a middle of the road 'daytime TV and Radio friendly' artist on the likes of 'Stop' and 'Superstar'...to this harsher image with this album. I remember her going on This Morning or Paul O'Grady dressed like a hooker really...which will have put off a lot of the mainstream audience.

as the above has already said, she also took to slagging off everyone left right and centre, which doesn't go down well with the public.

I LOVE Beware of the Dog - that song should've been huge....the album is quite good in retrospect. Love Something About You, Ain't A Love, and the Are You Being Served sampling Window Shopping

Something About You was just lovely. It had a really lush video too.
I just want Jamelia to release any old song soon so she can have the very impressive achievement of a music career spanning three decades.

It was just a weak single choice, there is a certain remix that would have made a much better single... i think it's called the 3am remix or something like that, it's on iTunes so check it out

There were other songs on the album that would have made better singles:
. Got It So Good - SO radio friendly.
. Ain't A Love - Catchy, again... radio friendly.
. And as I just said... the remix of No More.

wasn't that around the time she called Javine who slept with MC Harvey (Alesha Dixon's husband) a "slag"?
