I know there's already a thread on bands that went nowhere so I thought I'd make a thread for solo artists.

- virtually every male x factor winner
- Kate Nash, was an afterthought after 2007
- Lisa Roxanne, a gangsta wannabe from London who acted and talked like she was American. She had a song called No Flow which was hyped a lot, it failed and I guess she disappeared.

Duffy stalled on her second album.

Craig David never did as well after his debut album.

The Darkness bombed on their second album.

Dina Carroll, Kula Shaker, Olive, Tasmin Archer, Finley Quaye, Eagle Eye Cherry, Daniel Bedingfield, Sandi Thom, The Magic Numbers, Mika, Klaxons - all these never saw early success last.

Little Boots was hyped a lot but her album flopped. Shame as Hands was one of my favourite albums of 2009.

Lisa Maffia. Female singer/rapper from So Solid Crew.

First single - 'All Over' got to number 2, second single went top twenty.

The album was pretty good but sold hardly any copies, she won a few MOBO's, then nothing.

Shame really, I thought she had potential.

I remember Jennifer Ellison!

And Rosie Ribbons - the girl who didn't win Pop Idol but was reportedly offered a 5 album deal but flopped after her second single.

VV brown was hyped. Her material was awful but she was different at the time
Could she make a turn around though as Album 2 is due for next year

Nathasha Bedingfield (good riddance)
Duchess (think I was the only one to purchase their single )
Sadly, KT Tunstall seems to have pretty much faded away.

How about Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk? They were massive a couple of years ago, but there doesn't seem to be much interest nowadays.

No one EVER said she was the next lady gaga , next big female after Florence the year before check your facts and what a stupid comparison to make both very talented women ellie is folktronica whereas gaga is more pop plus shes got a umber 1 album has sold over a million in the uk and played at the royal wedding Ellie is very much loved with an eagerly anticipated album out next year.

The saturdas have never recovered from forever is over in my opinion

Hardly
She is one of America's top female artists and has been since her debut in 2006.

I thought her debut album was fantastic. She was hyped alongside La Roux and Florence, however when it came to promotion, tv and radio weren't on her side. Though at least 'Shark In the Water' had somewhat success in US and France

Her new song is fantastic

She was on Lorraine Kelly this morning (ooer!) so presumably has a new single and album out shortly. I think a lot of the acts mentioned in this thread haven't necceserily "gone nowhere", but are having an extendded break or are taking their sweet time with new material.

Ooh I thought of one that may be before many people here's time: Terence Trent D'Arby!

The only channel to play it was NME, why hate on ellie for it even if the comparison had stupidly been mad she has never claimed to anything than she is and had huge success off of it.

Natasha Bedingfield has done well for herself in the US though, and chose to spend more time there promoting and touring, which had added to her (admittedly already fledgling career in the UK/Europe).

Miss Dynamite lack of major success surprised me after the hype her debut album recieved.

Samantha Mumba? Started off so well for her, amazing debut single, good follow up tracks, Hollywood movie, and then nothing else since, it seems.

Girl Thing (The new Spice Girls) who basically made their own version of the 'Wannabe' video with cringeworthy effects and tried to have their own nicknames ie 'Pink Thing', 'Crazy Thing' .....

21st Century Girls - (most people might not remember them but they came from the Simon Fuller stable of 'hype hype hype' in 1999). I liked their first single but it flopped in the charts and I think they were dropped shortly after their second single also flopped.

Not really...She had a smash hit in 2008 with 'Love Sex Magic', so it's not like she vanished. And 'Ride' was banned everywhere, it had no promo and it still entered the top 100, so if she still had people checking for her single in 2010, that means she isn't an act that has gone nowhere.
