BBC Sound Of 2012 list is 'completely meaningless'
Got this link through from NME web site
http://www.nme.com/news/various-artists/60816 Have checked through all the artists. Most sound a bit Wonky pop (which most 'credible' ?? artists are tryng to distance themselves from these days) OR the type of stuff you hear on Radio 1extra (which continues to have relatively low listener levels) to me.Not good at all. Have to agree with this often over used sentiment (from Rough Trade shops) on this one 'wow that bbc sound of 2012 is completely a bit 'meh' aint it? http://twitter.com/#!/roughtradeshops |

It's certainly meaningless to me, but whether that says more about the relevance of my music taste than the relevance of the list itself, who knows.
Although having read that NME article, I hadn't realised that 14 of the 15 acts are on major labels rather than independents. So it really is just a list of the acts that are already getting big support from within the industry, and the major labels tend to follow on music trends rather than lead i.e. sign what they think already sells, not take a risk on what they think is innovative. I'd definitely agree it's all a bit "meh", that was pretty much my reaction. |

I thought similar about the list, in the sense that some of the artists on there are already so well-known and famous!
But, musically, I think it's a great list. If you don't like urban music, you'll think it's a terrible list, but as a fan of urban music, I like it more MUSICALLY than the other lists in previous years, even though some of these artists were more like the "Sound of 2011". |
