Right, so I'm at uni! I have quite a few things that either can't go in the dryer, or are handwash only - my mum told me I'd be fine handwashing stuff.

Only thing is, it's taking bloody AGES to dry! I've got a wooly jumper on the radiator at the moment, hanging it over the banister stretches it, but it's still taking a stupid amount of time!

Any advice? Obviously when I go home there's going to be a lot I can't bring back to uni in the new year, because it's simply unwashable here!

A good way to dry out jumpers after you've squeezed them out is to lay them out on a towel, then roll the towel up completely (like a swiss roll of towel and jumper) and then twist the towel and squeeze it, and sit on it if necessary. That'll take out a lot more water than just squeezing a wet jumper, and if you put that on the radiator it should dry quicker.

I hadn't thought about squeezing it with a towel round it, although I have of course been squeezing water out of it, I haven't just taken it out of the sink and put it straight on the radiator!

It works really well - I think I picked that one up from many camping trips in wet weather!

Even if it says its hand wash only, you can still put it into a washing machine just to spin dry it. This will remove all the water from the final rinsing you've done in the sink. Make sure you only select SHORT spin for knitwear and delicates though ! Otherwise the jumper could be spoiled. Your jumper could be put on an airer somewhere warm and would dry in a day or so. I do all my family's knitwear this way - works a treat. If you have any, put a few drops of fabric conditioner in the final rinsewater because it will make your knitwear smell nice and be softer.
