Albert Square wakes up to a New Year. The news breaks in the Square that Pat has had a heart attack and died. Pat's death ripples around the Square and Alfie opens up the Vic so the residents of the Square can toast Pat's memory. Ricky and Janine are both distraught but Ricky tells Bianca he cannot stay in the Square any longer. Mandy tells Ian that she cant marry him and joins meets Ricky at the tube station. Ricky and Mandy quietly leave Walford. Carol is glad that David managed to arrive back in time to see his Mum and David has a heart to heart with Bianca.

Bianca goes to find Phil but Shirley tells her that Phil has gone missing. David calls his brother Simon in New Zealand and tells him that Pat has died but Simon tells him that he is unable to get back to England. Bianca tries to get hold of Peggy but she is board a cruise in the Med and all messages keep going to voicemail. Janine is upset with Bianca for letting Ricky go and the Wicks and Jackson freeze out Janine.

David is upset that Janine has organised and paid for Pat's funeral and Bianca accuses her of throwing her money around to help with her guilt. Ricky calls Bianca from Dubai and tells her he is not returning to Walford and that Mandy is with him in Dubai. Bianca asks Ricky for a divorce over the phone. The Massods visit Tamwar in hospital and Alfia tells Zainab she is leaving Walford without Tamwar.

Janine informs the Wicks and the Jackson's that Pat's funeral will take place on Thursday week and that she will be cremated. Ricky telephones again but informs that Bianca that he will not return for the funeral, he tells her however that his sister Diane will be arriving from France and that they are to scatter Pat's ashes with Janine and David. Christian moves back in with Syed but Amira is still causing them problems and Christian finally stands up to Amira and asks her to leave Walford. Derek and David come to blows and Carol is caught in the crossfire.

Phil returns to the Square and Denise stands up to him and demands to know how Kevin died. Phil threatens Denise but she does not back down claiming she knows he was responsible for Kevin's death. Amira threatens to take Yasmin to Pakistan and Syed is torn between his lover and his daughter. Alfia tells Tamwar that she is leaving Walford because there are too many bad memories. David and Derek resume their feud.

Shirley advises Denise to cool it with Phil as he may do something stupid, Denise tells Shirley that Phil needs to be brought to justice once and for all. Alfia tells the Massods she is returning to Pakistan with her Father's ashes. Zainab is angry with Christian for returning to Walford but Syed stands up to Zainab saying its Amira who should leave Walford. Amira decides to move to Spain and join Chelsea. Diane Butcher arrives in Walford for Pat's funeral.

Dot, Carol and Bianca call for unity between David and Derek as the Square says goodbye to Pat. Alfie throws a big wake at the Vic for Pat and Janine pulls out all the stops with an elaborate buffet and drinks. Alfia leaves Walford for Pakistan and Massod tells Zainab that its time they respected Christian and Syed's relationship. Janine tells the Square she is pregnant with Michael's baby.

Amira finally agrees to divorce Syed and leaves Walford wth Yasmin but Massod and Zainab decide to travel with her to Spain. Syed tells his parents that himself and Christian will look after Tamwar although Zainab warns Syed that Christian is not welcome in the house. Diane and Janine talk about their lives with Pat and David tells Janine he wants to buy his Mum's House. Michael tells Alfie he intends to stand by Janine and Carol and David finally find peace with one another.

Phil is at his wits end with Ben after the stalker reveal and Ben is taken back to the young offenders institution. Ian tells David he is still finding hard to forgive him after all these years and David and Lucy bond when Lucy aks David about Cindy. David tells Carol and Bianca that he has brought his Mum's house and hands a £5,000 cheque to Bianca to cover the household bills for up to a year. David tells Ian he is sorry for what happened in the past.

Andrew panics when he feels Heather's pulse and there is nothing there, Andrew panics and then rushes upstairs to the kitchen where he gets hold of some pills, he places the pills in Haether's hands and then does a runner. Shirley is worried when she does not hear from Heather all day and while out on Bridge Street Christian notices Heather's door ajar and little George crying on the doorstep. Christian goes to see what is going on and feels Heather's pulse and feels nothing but sees the pills in her hand...

Christian calls 999 but is it too late?

Christian gets through to Roxy and tells her Heather has suffered a grave fall and Roxy immediately wakes Shirley up. Roxy and Shirley rush across the Square and the Square's residents are suddenly out of their homes. Shirley is distraught and angry and lashes out as Rose. Rose is comforted by Dot as Heather is taken away in an Ambulance to the Hospital. Rose tries to get hold of Andrew but his mobile phone is switched off. Christian tells Dot he found Heather with tablets in her hand but Rose suspects foul play and tells Dot that she believed Heather was pushed down the stairs by Andrew.

Phil and Ben return to the Square but Roxy tells them Shirley is at Walford General as Heather is in hospital. Ben and Jay rush to the hospital to see Shirley but Shirley tells them Heather is in a coma. Roxy calls Darren and tells him Heather has had a grave accident and may not pull through and Darren says he will come back to the Square and pick up George. Shirley is angry with Phil that he has not come to the hospital but the doctor gives Shirley the devastating news that Heather is brain dead and they need to ask the next of kin to turn off her life support machine.

Jane thanks Massod for saying yes to Christian but Zainab tells Syed she will not attend any gay wedding. Jane confronts Zainab and tells her once and for all that Christian and Syed love one another but Zainab says she accepts Christian and Syed are together but marriage is too going too far. Ray stands up to Derek and tells him in no certain terms to keep out of his and Bianca's business.

Christian and Syed's wedding day arrives and Jane tells Christian she is very proud of him. Tamwar praises his Father's attitude towards Christian and Syed's relationship. Linda tells Zainab that if she cant accept her son then dont come to the Wedding. Christian and Syed's marry but Zainab walks out of the ceremony and finds it too much only to run into her daughter Shabnam..

Zainab is delighted but shocked to see Shabnam. Shabnam asks her Mum why she has run out of the register office. Zainab tells Shabnam that she is struggling to accept that Christian and Syed are now married before Shabnam tells her it was Christian not Syed who invited her to the wedding and it would be a surprise for Syed too. Syed and Massod are delighted to see Shabnam, later back at the Vic Zainab thanks Christian for bringing her family back together. Zainab and Massod agree to marry again now that all their children are in the Square. Jane decides to go to America with her Mum.

Kenny tells Ian that he is thinking of moving back to the UK with his daughter Lizzie and his granddaughter Caroline. Marsden is back on the Square and warns Derek and Janine that if they have false evidence about Phil they too will be prosecuted. Syed breaks the news to Zainab and Massod that Amira has been killed in Spain and that he is flying to Spain to collect Yasmin. Zainab asks Syed if Qadim knows but Syed is reluctant to tell Qadim. Massod advises Syed to tell Qadim but Syed asks his Father to do that job. Ian tells Alfie that Phil has to sell the Vic and has given him first refusal but Alfie tells Ian that his divorce from Kat is going to cost money and he cant afford to buy it. The Brannings move into the Vic and Sharon and Dennis Jnr move into Number 5. At the party Jack gets talking to Sharon and there is a spark between them and he asks her out on a date. Ada apologies to Christian but says her christian beliefs do not allow to believe that two men can raise a child. Dot receives a further telephone call from the nursing home to and they tell her that Jim has died.

The Brannings, Rose and FatBoy all rally around Dot in her time of need. Carol, Max and Jack all feel guilty about not being there for their Father when he needed them. Derek's son Jamie turns up in Albert Square and Derek tells him his Grandfather had just died but Jamie hardly knew his Grandfather. Jamie tells his Dad that Maxine his Mum is in an abusive relationship with a man and he is worried that he will kill Maxine if Derek does not intervene.

Maxine returns home and Gary is abusive once again but unbeknown to Maxine and Gary, Derek, Jack and Jamie are all outside the house. Jamie hears screams inside the house and tells his Dad and Uncle to do something. Derek and Jack knock down the door and Maxine runs to Jamie and is shocked to see Derek. Derek gives Gary a severe warning to leave now or he will he will be six feet under. Derek tells Maxine and Jamie that his Dad has died and insists they return to Albert Square with him and Jack. Suzy Branning arrives at Dot's.

The Square says goodbye to Jim and Dot speaks of her love for Jim at the service plus Patrick remembers an old friend. The Branning siblings unite for their Father but tensions are simmering. Jamie gets to know his family and Bianca is happy that her cousin is in the Square and Cora agrees to take on Jamie as the Vic chef. Jim's wake is held in the Vic but Maxine brings up more racist comments about the Square's black residents which causes an argument between Denise and Maxine. Suzy directs her anger at Carol, Max and Jack for freezing her out of the family fold.
