As I'm sure some of you know, No Doubt have been working on the follow up to 2001's Rock Steady... For what feels like forever!!

Some early reviews of the song have been good, with the lyrics sounding promising!

I am literally too excited about this, but will it be a success? Have they been away too long? I would love to see them come back with a massive summer hit, something completely fresh and different to all the We Found Loves and Don't Wanna Go Homes flying about!

Is anyone else getting impatient and about to explode with excitement? Will anyone care that they're back?

I hope the comeback will be a success, but I doubt it tbh, not in th UK at least.I am willing to bet that 95% of the people who liked Gwens solo stuff have never heard a ND song.
They will check out the debut single from the album, realise its nothing like her solo songs and run for the hills.
On the plus side we get to see her bouncing around our TV screens again!

I don't reckon it will be huge, because they only ever had one HUGE era anyway. After that, it was all modest success. They will likely have one hit, a platinum album and a sell out tour.

Depends what you class as a success, plus it'll all depend on what they come back with. Take into account Rock Steady was a decade ago, times have changed and I'm sure they'll come back with something even different to that and quite fresh on what's out there currently.

I'd fancy them to have at least one pretty big single from this that's for sure, which could push the album itself even more. Then look at possible collaborations too, which could also play a big role in everything.

While of course I want it to be a massive success, the main thing for me is that they're back and making music. Love me some No Doubt and I'm confident I'll love their new material. Gwen is crazy enough to bring something fresh and crazy to the music scene too, hyped for this.

2012 is gonna be absolutely MASSIVE!!!

I cannot wait to hear them back...one of my fave bands ever...i love Gwen solo as well as the band of course...she is so quirky and refreshing to listen to and has such a raw energy and iconic look about her.

The only thing is....ND as a band werent really "maisntream" necessarily....always were pretty "culty" like Blondie i suppose. Tragic Kingdom was their biggest selling album globally but it only went Platinum here in the UK....while Rock Steady 10 years ago also eventually went Platinum but didnt even chart itself that highly....did it crack the top 40 even???

But i think there will be some hype and drive there also it sounds like they will have solid airplay too! Radio 1 hopefully will be all over it...they played two weeks ago a classic live lounge when they performed Hey Baby i think from a 2001 session

I think of all the comebacks next year ND is one i am very excited for!

No Doubt's success has always been a mixed bag. Apart from "Tragic Kingdom" they were never really massive sellers. "Rock Steady" and "Return of Saturn" only ever did OK in regards to commerical performance. Gwen Stefani has had a successful music career since the bands last album so I guess there will be more interest in the project since she's still well known.

I think they've taken way too long with this new one.

Their fanbase will buy it but the major public likely won't. I think some good album sales will happen and decent tour sales but that's it.

I'll care! The wait has been so long! I'm not sure how successful they'll be, they might not be huge but they'll do just fine at least, and it will be great for the fans. But one thing I do know is that the album will be great.

I'd love to go see them if they go on tour too, but I doubt that they'd tour outside the US.

Also gwen is massive in fashion at the moment still too . In Style latest issue has a mini interview about ehr fashion influences and the same old about ND music past etc. And loads of her looking amazing really.

So yeah she has established herself as a name too

Tony Kanal also has had writing/producing credits for the likes of Pussycat DOlls, P!nk and Britney i think so he has formed a bit of a name too as a writer and producer as well as on LAMB and Sweet Escape albums too

That's true but as a ND fan myself I had to unfollow them on twitter months ago.

total hype going nowhere. This album was due out in 2010 then 2011 and now 2012.

Too much hype for me. They tried writing an album ages ago when Gwen was pregnant and that went to pot. I dunno, I feel like until I hear it I believe they're having issues recreating the magic they had in the past. That or they're putting too much thought and work into the album.

Wow, I didn't even realise No Doubt had reformed! I'm out of touch! Lol. Although I guess I've never really followed their career, or Gwen's, to a huge extent. I always liked a lot of their stuff though. I always thought No Doubt were a great singles band. I was never so keen on their albums much as a whole. But singles like Hella Good, Ex-Girlfriend, New, Just A Girl, Don't Speak and the brilliant Simple Kind Of Life were just fantastic and I always preferred their version of Come On Eileen to Dexy's original (mainly cos I could never stand Kevin Rowland's voice! Lol).

It'll be really interesting and refreshing to have them back and see what they come up with, music wise.

And Gwen Stefani's a style icon!! I always love to see what she's wearing, lol.

Couldn't agree more about No Doubt being a cult band like Blondie, I think in years to come ND's music will be seen as classic like Blondie's is. Obviously not as revolutionary or just amazing but they're good solid pop songs (Just A Girl, Don't Speak, Ex Girlfriend, Hey Baby, Hella Good, Their cover of It's My Life still gets radio play - And Just A Girl is played at almost every Indie night I go to at a club)


I hope they do come to the UK on their next tour, I have a mental list of people I NEED to see live (Saw Blondie this year - amazing!)

I'm sure this album is going to be amazing, just because they've been away so long doesn't mean they might not still have it

I will be buying their album for sure, I'm a lifelong fan of the band (not that silly solo material. Yuck) so they have no fears in that regard. As long as I buy their stuff they'll be fine.

If it doesn't ill be furious but unsurprised. :sleep:

Would like to see The Cardigans comeback aswell.

I think they will have a certain limited level of success. As people said, they have a cult audience of fans who love them and have been waiting for a new record.
But I can't see it being a huge mainstream chart hit.

I think the best thing for them to do is release a couple of "hype" singles leading up to the albums release.

Maybe start with the weakest song on the album, then release one that's slightly stronger... the BAM come back with a big anthem and hopefully even bigger album

I'd like them to be a success again. I don't know if that could happen though. Gwen has definitely made a name for herself from the group, but that's also a negative. It's hard to call on No Doubt.

it'll be huge but not over here- post 90s they did very little here till gwen went solo, their albums were all huge stateside

Hey Baby was a massive hit in the UK wasnt it in 2001 and Hella good sold very well too didnt it.

I think that they will have sustained hype from fanbases everywhere...plus i think with the right sound mainstream radios in the UK will definitely promote them...hopefully get Stefani and Co. in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge again after almost 11 years!!! Oh my lawwwwd.

You should define "success" first They are quite an established band, so they will get good chart peaks with their album and probably decent numbers during the first month of release, that's for sure.However, I don't really know how their singles will perform and how their album will sell in the long run and those are 2 factors that define a successful era too

If they come back with the right image and a solid song, they'll do very well.After Black Eyed Peas flopping more than 'Bionic' even though they had 2 hit singles ( ), there is a lane for No Doubt waiting to be filled If they play their cards right, they can totally come back and cement their position in the industry, as there really is no band like them right now.But it depends on the music too.If it sounds dated, it may not work and maybe their album will be more experimental, which means that they won't get successful singles.
