You only mention Black/White leads, to me these sound like audio leads. What other leads do you have?

Have you selected the component/RGB input on the TV, this type of connection is not auto switching.

Anyway.......

Not that familiar with the Wii but I know it can be connected via component, don't know if the Wii comes with a component lead but you will need one to connect this way.

It will have 5 RCA connections at one end coloured Red/Blue/Green/Red/White. RGB will go to the RGB input on the back of the TV whilst the Red/White will go to the Audio input normally found next to the RGB input.

Once connected and the Wii switched on you will have to select Component/RGB on the TV's av inputs.

If it only has 3 plugs then these will be Red, White & Yellow.

They can only be fitted in the same colour sockets on your TV. Check the side of the set for these.

If your TV only has Y, Pb ,Pr then you will need one of these cables which does not come as standard with the Wii. In fact if you are going to use the Wii with a large screen then this lead is a must.

As in_focus has said, you should have 3xphonos on the set, normally found on the side, they'll be coloured red, white and yellow, connect the black and white to the red and white and the remaining lead in the yellow. You will then have to find the corresponding av input on the tv, just run through all av connections until you see a picture.

Don't know that model but unusual for Hitachi's not to have a yellow.

If thats the case then you will need the component cable.

Do you have FAV or BAV in the AV selection?

These are component inputs not composite, the leads you have are for a composite connection.

That is for something called Component. You have plugged the yellow Wii lead in to the green 'Y' socket which is the reason why you have a black & white picture.

First off, Component is the wrong set of sockets for you to be using with the Wii leads. You want to use the side sockets (look on the lefthand edge of the TV just below the headphone socket. The socket colours should match the Wii lead.

Glad you got it working - recommend you invest in the Wii component cable as it will give you a far better quality picture.

To be honest you should only use the composite sockets as a last resort as the output is of the lowest quality.

To be fair the graphics quality of the Wii games isn't the last word in video fidelity - and do you know what, it really doesn't matter that much either. It's not like watching movies or TV. Composite is fine for the Wii.
