New artists arrive every year so 2012 wouldn't be any special

It's the worst time. It won't even be a full year if the Mayans turn out to be correct.

It would be hard. You have releases from major artists like Madonna, Kylie, Christina Aguilera and Mariah to compete with.

Kylie doesn't affect the US at all, assuming that we're talking about a ''worldwide'' artist.
Christina could end up as badly off as she did after Bionic.
Mariah only returned to her former success once in the past decade, in 2005, and her last album flopped.

Madonna and (possibly) Gaga are the only huge popstars releasing next year, unless Rihanna (*sigh*) pushes out a new one.

I think Christina and her team now know that this next album actually matters. I don't have a clue how we're talking on scale, either.

I doubt Gaga would release in 2012 with her tour or I think she'd piss off a lot of fans (and the general public) who have forked out LOADS on all her products this year, then tour tickets. Rihanna wouldn't surprise me with a release.

Is Katy Perry releasing late next year?

All the albums should matter, and that's what went wrong with Bionic.

Gaga could release. She's already in the studio with Garibay and writing songs.

I hope Katy Perry doesn't release. If she has another ''Firework'' I'll cut a bitch.

Yes but Christina "I have nothing to prove" Aguilera thought that she could release an album of whatever. Her record label ****ed it up with the re-recording sessions and when you have a 4 year break between albums you're definitely going to have a change of ideas at some point.

Gaga could but shouldn't.

Katy shouldn't but may...

Her record label definitely had a hand in the downfall. It was more like ''Hey, I've got this new album out, and it's OK I guess'' rather than ''Listen to this! It's the best of my career!''

You would have thought the originator would have at least lived long enough to see if he was correct, wouldn't you? Pegging it in 2011 is a bit of a cop out IMO.

On topic: without wishing to sound like a broken record, my money is on Ms Del Rey to be next year's big new breakthrough artist. That's if her and/or her record company (same as Gaga's which is a worry, lol) don't manage to cock it up big time between now and then. From what I've heard & seen she's got the songs, the voice, the looks and the image. Oh, and the hype. In fact, it's too easy a prediction, something/someone will probably cock it up.
