She brings a different viewpoint to the table and is the judge most viewers at home can relate to the most. She's a breath of fresh air and she deserves every single penny.
Breath of fresh air? Sorry but the air is rather stale. It's just the same old pleasantries every week. Alesha says nothing original. After all the criticism, the BBC have her on a tight leash.

I just wish they'd give her another job on SCD. One where she'd do really well.

Now that DOI has finally binned Emma Bunton and replaced her with Katarina Witt- someone who knows a thing or two about figure skating- that would appear to be a sign they are moving the emphasis back to skating rather than being a circus act.

Would it be too much to hope that SCD will follow suit by replacing Alesha with a pro dancer. It needs someone who understands the technique and the performance aspects.

Karen is my first choice, but I would be equally happy if they could snag Camilla or Lilia
You should really post this a bit more often.

Karen is dull:yawn: and so is Camilla, Katarina Witt actually has a personality and is former Playboy Playmate which is the main reason she was hired.

Her and Louis Spence will give DOI Publicity and headlines. I hear she is already agreed to a photoshoot in the Sun
If they wanted another skater on the panel, they could of just put Karen Barber back but then she is seriously:sleep:

Surely she is there to play a role and mark as the producers feel the younger viewers would mark. The tens for Harry for instance, to counter the old fogey Len's lower marks. He is the old school judge, she is the new school judge.

Shouldn't this be merged with the other thread titled 'BBC should bin Alesha' or what ever it's called?

her success in the show? Almost universally disiliked and got the BEEB in terrific hot water for ageism
I think disliked by a very vocal group of Arlene Philips fans, most probably could not care less and many like her.

I can never understand why it was not ageist to have two in their late 60s, one mid 50s, one late 40s but it is ageist to bring someone in their 30s. Shouldn't all ages be represented rather than a bias to any particular range? Ageism can mean bias against any age range.

I don't want to sound bigoted but it does get up my whatever when people who consider that the only concept of fame is pop singers - and a not very good one at that.
Fame just means being known to a lot of people, the reason for that fame is irrelevant. Many might look down on fame just from dancing particularly if not ballet dancing.

What would constitute a lot? You really think the world knew about Alesha Dixon and Mystique or whatever they were called? Didn't exactly achieve longevity did they?

Evidence for this?

And somehow out of all that you conclude that Katarina's skating experience (for which she was and is far more famous than for any appearance in Playboy) essentially didn't matter. Yet if they wanted a Playmate, there are any number they could have chosen from.

Katarina wasn't even a Playmate, btw.

I do think its unfair that the judges just come on a Saturday night and speak for 2 hours, and get £100k (if true) whilst the dancers put in all the work during the week and get only £30k.

How does Alesha earn more than Craig and Len?

Universally? Really? Here I was thinking that those starving children in Africa had other things on their minds.

For the same reason that anyone else on a high salary gets it and other people don't. Its what the market rate is. The judges are known, have set characters, and play individual roles - the dancers can be replaced easily. Alesha gets the going rate for someone with her CV in the same way as thats what you would pay her if she was in a West End Show or doing an advertising campaign for you. Alesha is the only winner they have who is free and could do the job and she's cheaper than a Natasha or a Spice Girl would be.

Alesha's job is to guide the vote and to nicely get rid of the hopeless cases who have votes behind them - Arlene just got them more votes in her last years. That requires someone known to the show, amiable, popualr and able to make general comments - which is Alesha. DOI has gone back to having a professional skater instead of Emma, but it remains to be seen if the public vote takes any notice at all of her or if she proves at all popular.

This. I seriously cannot believe that so many people are so gullible as to believe stuff in the Daily Mail of all rags.

They did. I had never heard of Craig, Len or Bruno before Strictly (only Arlene). And none of the dancers were famous unless you follow the ballroom world which is probably a tiny percentage of the audience.
