Who would you say is THE ultimate legend of:

Pop
Rock
Soul
Alternative
R&B
Hip-Hop/Rap
Country
Dance
Classical

& who do you think is the most likely artist to be named a legend in say 20-30 years time?

Just having a little wonder myself...

This thread could either go really well and everyone has a good time, or certain ''Stans'' will start appearing.

I want no mention of Gene Simmons, Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift in this thread, please.

That thought did cross my mind. I do hope for a peaceful 'neutral' debate though.

To be frank if anyone was to mention either Gaga or Swift especially as an ultimate legend of their respective genre, then they don't deserve an opinion.

But well I guess we'll see.....

I'm not familiar enough with each genre to pretend I know who would be ultimate legend of each. I will however post my opinions on the genres I am familiar with.

Pop - Madonna (more modern- Britney, Lady Gaga, Rihanna)
Rock - Bon Jovi
Soul - Tina Turner
Alternative (too broad a spectrum of genre's here)
R&B - Beyonce
Hip-Hop/Rap - Jay-Z/Eminem
Country - Johnny Cash/Patsy Cline
Dance (again very broad range of potential genres). Possibly, Madonna, Britney, Rihanna...

As above I'm not familiar with each to give an opinion on everything. However,

Pop - Gotta be the Beatles

Rock - Deep Purple (the Paice-Glover-Lord-Blackmore-Gillan line-up)

Classical - J.S. Bach

Country - I think Kenny Rodgers.

Soul - I suppose would be Aretha Franklin

As for 20-30 years, who knows?

contemporary r&b - beyonce
hip-hop soul (not the same as soul by itself) - mary j blige
hip-hop/rap - grandmaster flash + the furious five, eminem (he's pretty good ) Dr Dre, Jay-Z. In hip-hop the list is massive.
pop - MJ and Madonna
soul - james brown and aretha franklin
dance - hard one, anyone can claim the title...madonna/rihanna for that one. and the black eyed peas (people hate them) but they have created some serious ultimate party tunes.

hard to say...beyonce is stunning in regards to contem. r&b, performs with the ferocity of MJ and james brown and has them killer vocals. for an r&b artist now, she's the one to sit and take notes from. in the future, lady gaga will try and give madonna a run for her money - i like her but if she wasn't using a lot of madonna's ideas, then she'd be amazing. no one can be entirely original, but you know what I mean. Nicki minaj will be a force to be reckoned with in the future, a female rap artist with pop, hip-hop & r&b appeal. they don't come around often...if at all.

not a fan of altern., classical or rock so I cant say on those.

Country- Dolly Parton (The Queen of Crossover- she has done more work than any other country artist in making it mainstream)

Dance- Hot Chip (Totally reveloutionary but also commerically succesful)

You really think Green Day are better than any of them?”

Stones (being my home town boys and that) I'll concede....I cannot stand Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin...I would not listen to them if you paid me.

But given the choice...I'd still listen to Green Day or the Foos.
