Florin Street Band "My Favourite Time of Year" for Christmas No 1 campaign.....
I know there are lots of these campaigns running but how about one to get a TRUE Christmas song in the charts and to the No 1 spot this Christmas??
"My Favourite Time of Year" by The Florin Street Band. You can view the video on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/user/FlorinSt4No1Xmas2011 and join the Facebook campaign: http://www.florinstreet2011.com The story behind this one is amazing: Leigh Haggerwood had a vision - To bring back to the music charts the kind of Christmas song that we all love and cherish so dearly.... Everyone looked forward to the charts on Christmas Day in the 70's and 80's; however, the magic appears to have disappeared these days as nobody seems interested in writing new Christmas songs anymore. Disappointed by the demise of the Christmas charts, Leigh set about writing an authentic, traditional style song that would include all the elements of true Christmas classics. In 2010, after three (unsuccessful) years of battling with record companies for backing (record companies NOT wanting to compete against The X Factor), he decided to go it alone, gathering musicians together that he knew to form "The Florin Street Band" and used his life savings to fund the project. Recorded in August 2010 and featuring The English Chamber Choir who were recorded at Trevor Horn's Sarm studios in London, this truly wonderful festive melody (with an equally magnificent video filmed along Canal Street at Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire's Ironbridge Gorge which was renamed as 'Florin Street N.W.' ) was released on December 6 on the Calmsound label. However, due to the lack of record company support it had very little airplay/advertising; the song only really being 'discovered' late on in 2010 thanks to Sky's music channel 'Bliss' & on websites 'You Tube' & 'Facebook' It managed to make no 40 in the indie chart and 14 in the indie breakers chart over the Christmas period but didn't crack the UK Top 40 singles chart. Twelve months on and it is back - with over 500,000 views on You Tube and several campaigns running to get the song to no 1, it was released on December 5th with ALL profits from download sales going to ITV1's "Text Santa" appeal and the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust. The song is also the theme to the televised shows on 11th December and 24th December. However, despite the fact that it is now a charity record, mainstream radio stations are still choosing to ignore the record as it comes from a small record label. It is therefore proving difficult to get the song out to the public. This shouldn't happen to a charity song and I think this is VERY wrong indeed - Irish radio stations are playing the song so radio stations in the UK SHOULD be ashamed! So, I'm urging people to get behind this song - not just because it's a TRUE Christmas song but also because it is helping some truely remarkable charities this Christmas. Thank you and have a Wonderful Christmas. |

Apologies, forgot to also mention (and I can't see any edit button) that the US ARMY BAND "Pershing's Own" are even performing their own arrangement of the song in WASHINGTON DC tomorrow night - 10 December!
You can view their programme for the event on the following link: http://www.usarmyband.com/programs/2...y-Festival.pdf |

Mainstream Radio stations WONT play the song as it's not from a BIG record label like SONY etc. It makes no difference to them that ALL profits from downloads are going to the "TEXT SANTA" appeal & one of Leigh's own charities, the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.
That's why! People just aren't hearing the song enough for it to register. I think it's an absolute disgrace that here in the UK media don't appear to want to help our own home grown talent. Instead they just want to plug reality TV popstars. I've been trying to get the song on HEART FM for weeks - they still won't play it after the "TEXT SANTA" show last night featuring the music. Yet within hours of X Factor finishing they're playing the winners song. That's todays music industry in a nutshell! |

Absolutely love this tune and must play it half a dozen times a day through December. Bought the song and the video last year and have to say its already one of my all time favourite Christmas songs.
Really hope the Text Santa programme helps it chart as it really does deserve to be a massive hit for them. I was stunned last year when it didnt chart. Are Radio 2 playing it as youd think it would be perfect for them

No, despite sending promo discs to all the big radio stations they are refusing to play (at the moment) as the record label is 'calmsound' and not 'SONY' I think it's an absolute disgrace and SOMETHING should be done about this. We've tried hammering HEART with requests for the song but they just ignore them. And apparently Radio 2 said it was 'too weak' last year!
I'm urging people to get behind this song and give it a BIG push. If we can get it into the TOP 40 then Radio Stations will HAVE TO play it. They have no option then. It's available on iTunes, Amazon, 7 Digital, HMV and Tesco Entertainment. I've posted links on my YouTube page above (on the left hand side) |

I know numerous people in the UK Music Industry, & I will make
sure that all of them see how terrific this Single is. (I'll send them the Video Clip). It truly deserves to be a Christmas No.1. Even if our efforts are fruitless, at least we will have got more people to be aware of the Song. |

the video on youtube has had 500,000 views - even if just 10% of them downloaded it - it would make the top 10.

@ fugitive - The video was uploaded in 2010 and the views have accumulated over time (not just a few weeks). Also, viewers are not just from the UK - they are spread over the four corners of the world! I know what you're saying though.
@ Zeus555, if you could help in any way then that would be great. Leigh is planning a Florin St Album for next year and a musical similar to 'The Snowman' but I fear he may shelve the project if the song fails again this year and there isn't much time left. At the moment, people just aren't hearing it enough for it to gather momentum. And what they do hear isn't being promoted - Text Santa just want to support TOWIE and try to get that to number 1 - despite it being the theme to the show and ALL profits from MFTOY going to the appeal as well! It is actually quite upsetting that they are treating the song this way as it is a genuine Christmas song and deserves to be heard at Christmas. |
