The step he started his routine with (after the clapping and running around) are called "batocados" which I think Bruno commented on. He then went on to do some "botafogos" a few steps later. Very different steps.

Arms should always be moved with any Latin step; a normal arm movement for bota fogos would be to move the arms from side to side as you move the feet, ending with one arm pointing forwards eg as right foot is to the side, the right arm is shaped forward, the left arm is out to the left. But that isn't set in stone, arms can be moved in anyway that seems to come naturally.

Some nimble botafogos in a delightful samba by Donnie and Gaynor. If you have never been to Blackpool Tower Ballroom, you have missed something.

I just looked at Artem's botafogos. He's not doing them properly. His side step is very small, so much so that the side stepping leg is still bent. Clearly that's not part of the rules of that particular competition, and it explains why he managed to do so many. But technically those botafogos are not correct. James was doing a full botafogo. I haven't re-watched the rest of the pros'.

To be fair I think you could say that about the majority of the pros; none of them were really doing the correct technique; realistically, to dance 2+ bota fogos per second, there is no way they could dance it properly.

Fun though, don't you think?
